Poking around in a gun shop turned up this mould. It is #82001 unused at least it appears unused and I see RCBS no longer lists this one. There is #82002 I think which is gas checked and essentially the same boolit as far as I can tell. The GC can probably be diriven to higher speeds. I'm thinking of this for my hornet, any experience with this one. I have a Savage 24 Hornet/20ga. not a match gun but versatile and fun. Wasn't expecting another mould to turn up so soon but I'm glad this one did.

Thanks,

That bullet might be too heavy for a .22 Hornet, but it sure won't hurt to try. I have that one and I use it in a .223 Rem. single shot based on a Ruger #1 action. I still have not achieved the accuracy I would like using WW, bit it does quite well using linotype.
I'm thinking the rifling twist in the Hornet might be a bit too slow for that heavy a bullet.

Don't remember if I ever shot it in anything but I had a couple of these. High visual acceptance rates. Between 150 and 175 good bullets per hour with linotype.

I've got that boolit and it doesn't stabilize in my hornet, at least at the velocities I was pushing them (~1600 fps). I wss thinking of pushing them harder "just in case", but decided to stay with the 225438 for the hornet and use the 22-055 for the .223. Pilgrim

I’ve had great success with three different powders and heavy boolits in my 22 k-Hornet;

Lyman 225462 which weighs about 57 grains in my wheel weight alloy, I shoot 10.0 grains of Reloader 7 and a Winchester Small Pistol primer. or, 7.0 grains or SR 4759 and a WSP primer. These loads although not chronographed are in the 1600-1800 fps range.

NEI 22-54 GC which weighs about 60 grains in my wheel weight alloy, I shoot 12.0 grains of Accurate 2015 Bench Rest and a Winchester Small Pistol primer. This load is a 2400 fps load.

Alliant lists 10.5 of Reloader 7 and a 50 jacketed bullet on their web site, as 21,500 cup.

If that RCBS boolit is a plain base I might limit myself to the Reloader 7

anyway start 10% below published loads, hang a target and see what your rifle likes.

Joe,
You are appropriately named. That mold is (or was last I checked) still available but it's on the special order list at about $125. I got mine when they cost MUCH less. It casts very nicely and very rapidly piles up lots of very good quality projectiles using 50/50 WW/lino or straight lino. They shoot very good indeed at about 2100 fs out of a 14" or 12" twist from the .222, .223, etc. [smilie=w:
I've opened up a few primer pockets :( trying to get them to thrive in a 16" twist Hornet using IMR4227 (about 10.0 grains,YMMV[smilie=1: ). I couldn't get enough 4198 in the case to make it worth the effort. I tried BLC-2 and it showed some promise for groups but needed a chamber brush between shots to remove unburned powder. Now that its warm again, I'm trying some WW-680 that I forgot I had. No results yet, too many other things going on.:roll:
