What about 160 gr LEE TL w/ a soft alloy tip at 2100 fps for whitetail?

I'm not familiar with the profile of that bullet, but the weight and velocity is fine for deer.

How about either the 150 or the 170 as they already have a good flat nose with good size meplat? The soft nose helps, but why not use the more effective profile to begin with too? Flat noses for live targets whenever possible.

I agree since the 7.62x39 has ballistics like a 30-30 the 170gr flatnose should work, are you using an SKS?, never used flat nose from one so I not sure about feeding.
