Has anyone tried NOE 260-80 in a 25-'06?

Marlin, I have not tried cast boolits in my 25-06. Most 25-06 rifles have a 1 in 10 rate of twist and would be more prone to stabilize boolits with a weight of 100-120 grains. My 25-06 will shoot into 1/2 inch at 100 yards with a 120 gr. Sierra jacket bullet, but the groups open up with any bullet under 100 gr. You might want to consider getting a mold that will cast boolits weighing 115-120 gr. If NOE has one of that weight, I would not hesitate to get it as they do make good molds.

I have enough personal experience with an old ADL in 25-'06 to know it can be a 0.5MOA shooter with 87 grain copper patch.

I dont use that mold but I shoot cast in my 25-06 all the time. There was a grp buy on here several years ago for a lee loverlin that my rifle loves. Try 18 grs of 2400 over a 80 grain with a gas check.

I've found the Lyman 257312 to be a very accurate shooter in the 25-06, much better than any of the 100 to 120 boolits out there.

I've found the Lyman 257312 to be a very accurate shooter in the 25-06, ...Might I ask what alloy/hardness you use? I don't have a 25-06 but my 25-303 should be pretty similar with cast. It has a 1 in 10 twist which I'm assuming your 25-06 has?

While the twist may be the same and the combustion chamber similar, the throat configuration and how it fits the boolit is paramount to the accuracy levels I'm seeking.

BTW, NOE 260-80 kinda looks like Lyman 257312, doesn't it, 45 2.1?

I'll stay with the original. Lyman, sometimes got it right the first time, and this is one of those times.

Not even close huh?

Perhaps you can persuade Lyman to bring back 257312. :bigsmyl2:

BTW, what is the length of 257312?

I don't think Lyman will do that.............. BUT I do know a very talented mold maker in Slovenia that can do better than Lyman. O.A.L. = 0.731"

Will he stamp "Made in Slovenia" on it, 'cause that'll be a real deal killer for me. :bigsmyl2:

But seriously, is there an easier route I can take? I don't write or speak Slovenian.

But seriously, is there an easier route I can take? Go thru the GB process with MiHec. I don't write or speak Slovenian. I don't either, but his English is pretty good.

MJ: I've got several Mihec moulds, and I've yet to see "Made in Slovenia" on any of them. I'm curious, why would that be a deal breaker for you? From my experience he's a really nice person to deal with, and his moulds are as good, or better than NOE moulds. Also most of his moulds are made from brass, and that's my favorite material for a boolit mould. Also, just in case you didn't know it, Miha (the owner of Mihec moulds) is a forum member here, so you can PM him with any questions you might have. He's fairly busy, so sometimes it takes him a while to respond, but other than that dealing with him is as easy as any other vendor here in Cast Boolits. I would think that now is one of those times that you wish Tom from Accurate Molds could/would make moulds smaller than 30 cal!

As far as I know NOE is one of the few who make boolit moulds that small of a diameter. Not sure if Mihec does.
I got some samples of the 100 and 120gr NOE mould and am in the process of trying them in my 1:10 twist 25 cal. Other than pushing them a LOT faster than they need to be, thus causing accuracy problems, I suspect they will be a real dandy boolit for me.

I now regret not getting an NOE mould when they were available. I just have to wait for more inventory to be ran by NOE or get a bunch together for a GB or find one for sale....

as far as the original post about NOE's 260-80 gr in a 25-06, no sorry I have no experience with it.

Well, first of all, I didn't realize 45 2.1 was referring to Mihec (I've never done business with him; therefore, the location didn't ring a bell). Secondly, did you notice the big smile? I was joking; however, I would actually prefer to deal with someone a little closer; e.g., Utah, perhaps.
