If this is any indication, my answer is "I DON'T KNOW". 75-100 maybe, and I bet there are more than a few on here who will laugh at my "small stash".

According to my Mold List Software (http://www.tmtpages.com/MoldListBuy/), I now have 85 molds in the collection and one more on the way.
If you have more than a few molds, this is a neat way to keep track of them.

After a year into casting I probably have eight and think I only need a couple more. Of course I said the same thing when I only had eight guns.

I stopped counting them a long time ago..... It's not how many moulds you own that's important, it's what you can do with them.

Absolutley, and I might add, what you can do with the product of each mould.

How many? I dunno but given the many thousands of different moulds out there I can only say . . . not nearly enough!

I had a house fire in 1986, the count at that time was about 180. I've gotten more than that since and have not counted them since that time. I also can't keep track of where some of them are, except for borrowed molds (those I keep strict track of).

I had to go count, found 25, and I think there are two or three in a drawer somewhere. I may have overlooked some as I have not got my gun building finished (work gets in the way) and my wife kicked me out of the third bedroom when all the kids came at Thanksgiving, so there are piles in the garage that have mysteries in them. About 50 or so. That software looks cool, Tom--but organization is not a high priority at present, and after 27+ years of fervent documentation--I'm pretty slack in that department as well. I didn't mow/trim the back yard today, either--so I'm a pretty flagrant layabout.

I did reload 140 30-06 cases with #311284 boolits today, though--and got the emptied cases from Tuesday's Burrito Shoot tumbled in a timely fashion, and readied for refill on the benchtop. This borders on exemplary performance, considering my usual casual manner of re-stuffing/re-packing ammunition.

I still have the first few single cavity Lyman moulds I bought 36 years ago. I think they were $8 each at the time, handles about $5.

As with guns, they are one of the few things you can buy, enjoy for years, and sell them for more than you paid.

Just did a quick head check, I can think of 26, 3 (I think) group buys on the way. 2x on order in Australia. That's 31 and I'm sure if I pulled them out I'd find more. These darn group buys are making me a bit of a mould collector.

I still don't have a 311284!! :(

PS< Tom, where do you get that software? Do you make it /sell it? That looks way cool. I have made myself an armoury spreadsheet to keep track of my guns, but haven't done anything other than list the moulds. Actually that's pretty much all the spreadsheet does for the guns. Keeps, license details, values, etc. I'd like something fancier.

Mick,

The mold database software is one of the shooting and casting related software packages that I have developed and am currently offering for either download from my website or a physical disk installation.

It is a neat method of keeping track of acquision, dispostition and characteristics of one's molds, If you are proficient with camera and imaging techniques, it also provides an excellent visual reference to the individual molds. The imaging portion of the software is not necessary to the record keeping process, but it is sure nice to have.

You can check out the mold software here:
Mold List Software (http://www.tmtpages.com/MoldListBuy/)

A Firearm Records module is also available that also provides a complete visual and documented record of all one's cartridge firearms and any work or modifications that have been performed.
Firearm Records Software (http://www.uslink.net/~tom1/printarms.htm)

You can check out all of the Precision Software Programs here:
Precision Ballistics and Records (http://www.uslink.net/~tom1/)

The PayPal System makes it easy for those outside of the US to quickly and easily order and install the software. They stick me with a larger fee but I don't mind that if I can get the exposure to the out of the country market.

I am leaving in a few minutes for the Harris, MN. Black Powder Buffalo Match, so if you have any questions or comments, I'll respond when I return Sunday evening.

Axxman--

This is my first try with #311284, a loaned mold for test-driving. I'm hopeful that its better land contact in my 30-06 than what occurs with #311291 will prompt more consistent accuracy. If they fly true--I'll get my own copy of the tool. Mind you, I'm not trashing the #311291--it does VERY well in the 30-30. The '06 has a scope on board for load testing at present, but will shed that sighting gear in favor of aperture irons once it gets along with lead boolits consistently enough to present stress and angst to the other Burritoderos.

I have lots of 20 rounds loaded--full case of WC-860 (58.0 grains), and weights of 2400 from 16.0 through 20.0 grains. The WC-860 will likely run higher velocities than the 2400 loads, but we all need the pronounced BOOM of 50 BMG ball powder once in a while--and the enhanced recoil of 210 grain boolits setting off right smartly from a 30 caliber platform.

I am temporary custodian of about sixty now, and two group buys and a Brooks 375gr .379" for my Sharps 38-90 enroute. I built a 10'W x 19 1/2' long (city ordinance, under 200sq ft no setback, etc) shop for casting/sizing/lubing, and got all the cabinets and cupboards from my sister's kitchen remodel in place. Sure looks nice to open those cabinets and see all the rows of moulds w/handles and boxes of others.

I got up to just under 300 (including all but a couple of the Lyman round ball-moulds ever listed: 80 or so); panicked about five years back and sold 200+ (the "boolits" at gun shows, the RB's to Western Bullet Co.); now I'm back to about 150, plus a GB or two in orbit. I'm a REAL mould packrat! I mostly just sit and fondle them, chuckling to myself, but ever' now & then break out a couple and fire up the pots.
