I just got a Lyman Big Dipper furnace and it doesn't get hot enough to cast with so it goes back! Will the Lee #10 dipper pot do better or not?

It doesn't melt the lead?

Springfield,
It got all the way up to 620 deg and that was the best I saw. Preheated the mold and dipper on a hot plate and tried but the temperature dropped each time the dipper went in, even after it had set in the melt for a while. I'd been better off with a wood fire.

You can reset the max temp on the Lyman Mag Dipper.

Set it all the way up,

Wait until the light goes out - then pull the knob off. In there is a allen set screw (small) find the right allen wrench for it.

Turn it 90 degrees clockwise. - did the light come on? If not go back to starting position and go 90 degrees counter clockwise.

Wait for the light to go out and check your temp. It may take 2 or 3 times for you to reach the max temp you want - I wouldn't go over 850or so.

Most of the Lymans are set too low and a few of the RCBS ones are too - they can be adjusted the same way.

My Big Dipper works great. You must've got a bad one.
