I have the Lee 312-155 2R, it weighs 160 gr. with lube and gas check, diameter is .313 after sizing. I also have the Lyman 311410 PB, it weighs 134 gr and the diameter is .313 after sizing and lubing. My SKS has a .3125 barrell. The Lyman reloading manual list loads for the 311410 so there is no problem with that boolit. What I am wondering is what kind of load should I use with Unique using the 160 gr. Lee. I also have RL7, H4198, H4895, H4831, Red Dot, and a few others. Any successful loads anyone has tried would be appreciated. My SKS is a Yugo and I am going to shut off the gas port. I will be shooting it as a streight pull to load after each shot. I replaced the Mil spec stock with a Hogue Monty Carlo stock it fits me much better as I have long arms. I also put a peep sight on it, Wow! what a difference that makes. Thanks in advance to all who respond.

I've been using around 15 to 16gr of 2400 with their 160gr TL design. I have a Yugo M59. I get some leading in the gas tube and on the top of the piston, but it comes off fairly easy. Water quenching reduced the gas system leading a great deal. Drops the brass just in front of the bench.

22.5 gr of RL7 should put the Lee boolit with a GC down range at about 1850fps.
The RL7 burns clean and I don't have leading issues.

Do you shut off the gas port? I have this same gun and have never fired it. I switched the stock to one of the assault rifle stocks. I've yet to get a magazine for it. Was going to start casting for it once I fired some FMJ's thru it.

The Chinese variants don't have a gas shutoff, no grenade launcher. I did reduce the gas flow a little to smooth out the cycling and keep the shells from turning black. Hand loads cycle just fine. I was getting some serious bruising on the nose until I did the 4 to 8 mod .

That looks nice! I haven't modded mine at all. Like I said I have yet to fire it. It has been in my gun safe for nearly 5 years.

Tech2,

I'm going to have to try that powder again. I've used it with jacketed bullets and it worked well.

If you shoot at a pit or some place where you are plinking at cans the SKS will put a smile on your face. My hand loads are about 3/4 power and deliver a nice satisfying thump to your shoulder and make cans and water bottles dance all over the place.
I put 10 rounds down range and everybody is lining up to shoot it.

I shoot just over 13 grains of 2400 pushing a Lyman\Ideal 308291 (311291) that casts pretty fat. I size it to 3.12 just to lube and set the GC. This load shoots pretty accurate and cycles the action on my Chicom while constructing a mound of brass in front of the right corner of my shooting table. I actually just came in from shooting it. When I shoot faster loads, I just pull the gas piston and operate it like a bolt gun to save brass.

Thanks Tech2 I will give that load a try. I'm also going to try the Lyman 311-410 PB with 8.0 grs. of Unique, the manual shows about 1500 plus, it should be a nice plinking load.

using 15 gr of h-110 cycles well same cb bullet as your using
accuracy ok at 50yds . 100 poor with 2 diffent cast bullets

of the powder you have would suggest the 4198 powder use the lee chart
