We haven't had a decent rain in NW Ohio in 10-11 weeks.
Rains moving through right now and have got at least 1 1/2" of rain.:bigsmyl2:

Why am I free you may ask!
Well, the past 7-8 weeks I have been hauling water to my 2 acre garden by hand, (two five gallon buckets) every day for, it seems like ever.
Now, I'm free to rest a bit, I am no longer a slave to the garden.[smilie=p:

We got that same band of rain in KS. I too was jerking water from a stock tank for the garden.

We are just the opposite here in NW Montana, we've had rain almost everyday for the last 3 months. Hopefully summer is here to stay now that it finally arrived

Here I thought you had been in jail or something and I'd missed the news.

I've got a garden and know for a fact you are still a slave to it. Now you will have weeds to contend with!

10 gallons x 40+ trips a day to give everyone a drink.
My back feels better already.

Now that's funny right there!!!!

I think after about three trips I would have invented an Egyptian irrigation system on the spot, or at least looked into a transfer pump if I was getting water from a creek or pond.

The far end of my raised bed garden is 3 sections of 50' hose away from the nearest faucet,and hill.
8 rows 29' long.
3 boxes 4' sq.
1 box 8' sq.

I never made it through the first time.

TVA/Corps have not been able to get some lakes in TN to summer pool due to lack of rainfall.

Drought is supposed to be with us through July at least according to reports today.

Just a little worse here each year for the last 4 years.

You good people have been using the wrong method of rain control. We, too, have been a bit short of rain. So, yesterday, I took my car to the car wash. It came out looking bright and shiny and last night we had just enough rain to dirty the car. Unfortunately, it was not enough to do much regarding the crops...:evil::evil:

So, instead of a win-win, I got a loss-loss...

Hickory, I know just where you're coming from on the lack of rain recently.

We got a good soaking Tuesday-wed., first rain in 5 weeks. I have to HAUL water in the back of my SUV, in a plastic tank that holds 35 gallons. That's just enough to give my garden/plants a drink. The tank was designed to straddle a pick-um-truck bed, just fits in my Saturn.

I garden in a community garden provided by the local university. They used to provide water on-site, but they decided to stop doing that, reducing the rent to make up the difference.

I also have some containers around my mobile home. Called "the grow box" they have a good system to be self watering,(as long as you fill the well under the soil.) It's put out by the garden patch folks here;

This year I tried planting some stuff in 5 gallon pails, so far so good. Mostly tomatoes, as the deer love tomato flowers, the community garden is right next to a game preserve, plenty of hungry deer.

I'll take some pics, as soon as I finish weeding, damn weeds grow without water!:-x

Here's some pics. First the container garden;

These are peppers, Serrano to be exact;

The grow box, under that lip is the tank that holds to water. The bottom of the soil area has holes in the plastic that allow the water to go through into the tank.

Community garden;

I ran my mantis tiller down all the rows. Now I need to hoe between plants or pull weeds.

Gardens are 20 X 40 feet. Plenty of room for a single guy like me.

I have some room to fill up with something, gotta go shopping for plants.

except during monsoon which oddly enough ...is during summer time ( sometimes it even makes up for all those days without - all at once [wow] )

if i wash the ride no biggie but ,,, if i wash BOTH the inside AND outside windows ..yup it seems to rain , we've been too dry over the winter and not really even close to average for spring ( our two ummm supposed wettest seasons )

Well, this morning I discovered I'm not as free as I thought I was.
There is a real increase in the number of weeds in the garden.
Spot watering, did not produce very many weeds, but the soaking
rain has caused weeds to sprout everywhere.
With hoe in hand, I am a slave again. Hey that rhymed.
