Personally, I would not be melting that one.

I'd have to agree that melting that down would be a criminal act.

It's probably a numbered limited edition. Worth a heck of a lot more than the scrap weight.
Be a shame to melt it down. Is it for sale??

Knowing a bit about sculpture, I will venture that that is an excellent price, way below value, assuming it is of decent size.

Yep, carve individual parts in wax, cast, use those castings as a masters, put finish detail on them, then make a rubber molds of the masters, inject wax, repeat as needed, put wax parts on wax tree, put open ended canister around tree, pour in mastic, (plaster of paris) let dry, bring up to heat, melt/burn wax out, pour in molten metal, (pewter) water quench, remove plaster, remove castings from tree, clean castings, mount on base and finished product good to go.

I don't know anything about art but I know it when I see it. I do know something about casting metal and know t when I see it and that is art and it isn't casting metal.

I read an article on shooting pewter bullets and have always wanted to try it but this would be like cutting down John Wayne's Stetson to make a visor.

At $650, it darn sure isn't casting metal. It would have to weigh over 200 pounds at that price...

Here's the same piece (#385 of 750) that sold in an on-line auction (http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/11642079_sculpture-the-holdup-of-the-overland-stage) for $100.

I'd have given that for it.

Another auction listing, for yet another copy of the same piece, says that it weighs it approx. 21 lbs.

5 bucks a pound for tin isn't too bad. I like to keep it under $4 though...

The original was art, the castings made from masters are just copies.
