I have posted a few times about a homebrew lube that a friend of mine turned me onto.

The recipe is really simple.

8oz bees wax
4oz Safflower Oil
2oz Hoppes Elite Gun Oil (original recipe called for Ballistol but I can't get that locally)

It performs really well out of pistol loads - 44 & 357 (both mag and super mag ) and worked like a dream in rifle loads out to 2000fps.

This past weekend I gave it a whirl out of my new Browning BLR in 358 WInchester at 2400fps.

Worked great. No leading ... 3 patches and a sparkling bore.

I am now working on a load that will creep near 2700fps. Got my finger crossed.

It is the simplest lube I have ever worked with. Final product is a creamy white color and it stays soft enough to finger lube or pan lube. Haven't tried tumble lubing yet. Using my fingers is simple enough without having to melt it.

Anyway, just thought I'd share a simple recipe.

That recipe was on the BP side some time back and it is by weight. I have the Ballistol in mine and it works pretty good that way as well.

What is Safflower Oil? Never heard of it and where can you buy it?

Grocery store in salad oil section. Has highest smoke point of all the cooking oils, and probably is the most refined of them all. Has a low viscosity to boot. Compare with peanut oil, olive oil for shooting tests. Peanut oil has the highest viscosity of the three. Olive oil will have the highest micro-bug resistance of the three. ... felix

You might have to look a little as it isn't as common as the other oils. When I went lokking for it, they only had about 6 or 8 bottles in a whole isle of oils.
