I have a Lyman mould number 358156 it is 358 dia and 155 grain and is long so it can be used for 38 or 357 and is gas checkable.

I want to cast for a browning high power. I can swage these 358 down if required but what about the seating depth.

How far can i seat the round into the 9mm case without overpressuring the case?
I am thinking of trying it with 3.5 grains of bullseye.

Anybody tried this and lived?

Don't want to pay 85CAD/1000 for lead round nose 124 grain and don't want anothe mould if this will work.

I haven't done it, and probably won't. The -156 is an outstanding design from Ray Thompson, and has been a standard for the 357 mag and hot 38's for many years. But.

IMHO, it is so long that it will impinge terrifically on the powder room. I don't know what they cost North of the Border, but a Lee 2-banger in a good Luger caliber is my recommendation to feed your nine.

Adjust powder charge incrementally.
Check out the length and seating depth of a Lyman 356637 147 gr for a 9mm. That could give you a reasonable seating depth start.

I load the Lyman #358429 173gr SWC in my 9mm without problems. I seat this bullet pretty deep, OAL of 1.110 just so it is past the crimp groove. I would say just start with a really low powder charge as the pressure increases very fast when you increase the powder with such little room. Out of all my 9mm bullets this one is by far my favorite it's accurate and has a very low recoil at a 128 PF.
