My gf wants a tic tac toe target for .22 pistols.
My range has a 20yd minimum for steel targets.

I'm thinking of 3"x3" plates that some how flip or spin.

I don't have any welder access so a bolt together thing would be best.

Anybody got plans or ideas?

That's a really neat idea, I might have to try that one day when I get my new welding shop finished. I don't know how you'd make one with out a torch, welder, electric angle grinder, and good drill press.

Have you looked at LGS, Mid South Shooters Supply, Midway for 22 flipper targets?

22 are fairly reasonable, but will NOT survive large caliber hits.

As a quick target for a fun mach we used to have was saltines glued to the backer.
Liquid nails is sticky enough to instantly hold them in place

I read something yesterday that I found to be a lot like how I think.

If you can make it,,, Do so.
If you can buy it,,, Make it anyway.

Even Google has no idea who LGS is .
Can you please type it out?

I think my answers have proven that I do not know what I am talking about, compared to what you are talking about. Gonna have to see what you are talking about to figure how one could be fabricated.

Short version

Local Gun Store

BUT

I like how Longwood thinks.

I would go to whacking and welding, from the scrap pile, but then I have the tools to do so.

Wear safety glasses with targets that close, you may well be in the back splatter zone.

Are you just talking little squares?

Seems like 1" squares to 3X3" would make it more interesting . . .

Along the line of someones old tagline

"Aim small, hit small"

Why not buy a finished reactive 22 target for her?

rod for project (two uprights to stick in ground),
hose clamps at junctions to make frame

sorry can't get drawing to work out on this.
drill two holes in each 3x3 plate and take a metal coat hanger
and make a loop over the rod.

That will get you swingers. take a can of paint and a note pad to keep score.

Making a target would be simple enough but I have a little trouble trying to figure how to score without a by-stander score keeper.
In other words,,, how would you design it so an X or 0 popped up depending on who was shooting.

Not quite the same,, it could be done with trippers on each side on the frame that caused a X or O to appear in a central scoring area.

that's why you paint - write down who shot what then repaint

I don't see a way to cause an X or 0 appear when a blank square is hit.
Automatic score keeping without a score keeper is part of the attraction of action targets.

She wants some kinda competitive target stuff.

If she wants something competitive get/make a dueling tree. 6 or more flags that pivot around a center post. Start with half on each side and the goal is to clear your side.

I know it's a commercial target and not a re-useable DIY, but I've been having a ball shooting this target.
