I tried a few commercially cast plain based bullets in mine years ago with abysmal results, but would like to try again now that I'm older and smarter (arguable). I have a four cavity Lyman 311359 and that design functions well in the SKS, haven't tried it in the Carbine yet.

Recommendations? Anyone tried the Ranchdog TLC313-115-RF designed for the .32-20 in a Carbine? Not sure if it could be sized down enough, but I think it would be perfect if it would function and shoot well.

I run the 311 359 through mine with pretty good results.
It drops at 121 gr. with lube and gas check.
Put it on top of 11.5 gr of 2400 for about 1700 fps.
You won't be too far off.

My carbine is not exceptionally accurate, even for an M1 Carbine, some barrel wear, but will generally group acceptably with jacketed. I'll cast some of those 311359 again and try them before looking into buying another mold.

I would like something that would transfer energy a bit better than that pointed bullet though.

Try the 130gr Lyman 311410 when you get a chance. I'll be glad to let you borrow the mold to cast a bunch up.

Its got a nice roundnose to it for feeding and you could HP it with a drill attachment if you really needed to.

I am getting fantastic accuracy out of my good condition Marlin barreled Carbine with the NOE 311115 boolit. It is far better than the LEE 120. I HIGHLY recommend this mold. My scores are extremely high with this boolit. I really don't see how any other boolit can top this one.

Do you have a picture of this design you could post?

I like the similar, but un-checked, LEE 311-100-2R for a light load 100 yard plinker out of the Carbine.

And also look at the 311465, fun bullet

And then you could hollow point it, if wanted

I no longer have one but many years ago, I shot about zillion 3118s in mine.
The current number id 311008.

My mold drops them at 118 gr using WW.

Try it. You will like it.

This may be a bit off topic. I have heard many say shooting cast boolits in an M1 carbine is a no no as lead shavings eventually build up in the gas port and it's a bit of a trick to clean out the port and piston.

I've heard many others say the have shot thousands of cast lead boolits through numerous M1 Carbines and never had any kind of problem.

What are the guys who successfully shoot cast boolits doing different than the guys having problems created ?

Is there a bottom line to this story or too much hear say ?
I don't have a dog in the hunt but would appreciate experienced opinions as for why you think one way or the other.
Thank you fella's

My first go around with the M1 Carbine was in the 60s. 311359, no gas check, sized .311" like Lyman said and it leaded like a big dog. I'll bet I dug 100 grains of slivers from under the piston.

When I wrote my article on Castpics/Cast in the M1 Carbine, I was prepared to mine lead as I put about 2,000 rounds through it, both GCs and PB bullets. I pulled the piston and there was only the normal poowder fouling......no lead like I had previously encountered so I ran another 500 rounds of odds and ends and checked again. No leading....just powder residue.

I'm of the opinion that the gas checked bullet without check combined with the oversize bullets caused the problem. As long as you stick with .310" bullets, either GC or PB, you should have no problems from my experiences.

I have a 311359HP, a 311465HP and a 311008HP as well as a Saeco #254HP. They all shoot great in mine. The 311465 is a real whalloper. The 311008 is a bit picky about feeding but using a #311 TP kind of rounds the ogive and makes it feed better. It's undoubedly the best bullet on varmints./beagle
