Hello Folks,

What weight cast, grooved, bullet would be ideal for a Green Mountain barrel, 28" long, 45 caliber with 1:30" rifling?

Thanks, Tom

Darn good question.
Maybe folks will send you some to try out. What's the bore diameter?

Hi Cheer,

I don't know the bore diameter, as I don't have the barrel yet. But if I don't get a solid answer I'll just try some bullets until I find the one I like. I have 260 , 280, 320, & 450 gr 451 molds, and 350, 400, 405, & 450 gr 459 molds. Bullets upset so well on firing with black powder, I expect the diameter won't make much difference, unless they're too big. So, I guess we'll see.

Thanks, Tom

I have that barrel on my Hot Rod Hawken. I am using a RCBS 11mm .446" mould the weigh 409 grains with lead that is about 9 BHN. I am paper patching that bullet with two wraps of Onion skin. I am getting great groups out to 250 yards.
