Been separating brass and just happen to take note of the head stamp.

I got an order of 5k 223's in and was separating them and all of a sudden there it was, took me by surprise that's for sure. I know it may be hard to see but with that $50 camera my wife's proud of I can't get those really really up close pictures to well. It reads FEDERAL 38 SPECIAL.......And it's on a 223 case.

Talk about odd, been separating brass for well over 20yrs and this is the first time for me. No PM"S on this please.

Way cool. Sell it on Ebay as a rare and collectable case. Seriously!

I would think a cartridge collector would love that. Really odd.

I was more taken with the tamarindo bean you had the case head propped up on! Interesting headstamp, for sure. The operators must have forgotten to change the headstamper after retooling from .38 brass.

Now that's a REALLY BIG 38.

Maybe it's just a wildcat 38 Special necked down to 22 caliber.:kidding:

Outside my experience as well.

The bid war on E-Bay would be fun to watch. Make popcorn, and enjoy. This is at least as "Rare" and "Unique" as the Lyman/Russian :) ingot moulds with the backwards "N"/Cyrillic "I". Of course, ALL Lyman ingot moulds contain an upside-down Cyrillic "G"--the "L" in "Lyman".

I really didn't think of EVILBAY right off the bat, I'm not known for being the person that has $ on the brain. I was thinking about it overnight and had an idea about what I think would be best about something like this.

The server fees are coming up I think next month, and with this site being good to me I figure I would return the same thing this site has done.

It's just the exposer or volume of people or maybe lack there of looking in the Benefit Auction area of this site, I know I hardly go there.

All I know is that this is somewhat of a rarity in itself, and personally I have no use for it, and personal financial gain just isn't my way of doing things, unless I earn it by working hard.

So if a MOD sees this can they kindly let me know when Ken is going to be holding the donations for the server. I figure at that time I'll put it up for auction on this site.

Don't forget to say "vintage" in the description...

As far as I can tell, evilbay still doesn't allow reloading component listings. :-(

As rare and collectable as this might be, it's still a cartridge casing.

I sort all my brass by headstamping, never seen anything like that before.

Pretty neat, but as far as collecting not sure it'd be worth much, never know though, I'd keep it personally.

Load & shoot it a few times till the primer pocket gets loose or something. Then you can evilbay it as a non-loadable collectible.

Wow! That is interesting. Never seen anything like that before. Hopefully they remembered to change the powder charge from .38sp to .223 when they loaded it at the factory. It would have been really interesting to see a shaved .38 bullet seated in it and a small pistol primer in it as well.

Don't mean to hyjack the thread, but you mean my Lyman ingot mold with the backwards N is worth something???

I'll have to tell my friend who used to work at Federal about the headstamp. Interesting.

What about the tens of thousands of once fired .223 cases that are being chopped and converted to the 300 Blackout? Hmmmm, 300 Blackout cases that have .223 stamped on the bottom. I'd better get one on Ebay before everyone finds out! :)
