My wife's friend lost her son.



ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 20-year-old soldier from Georgia has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Saturday Pfc. Brandon D. Goodine, 20, of Luthersville was killed June 7 in Maiwand, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

I'm sorry to hear this. I posted about a young man we buried at Leavenworth the other day and how hard these are getting to take (I didn't know him, but it gets to me for any of them).

I hope his family takes it as well as can be expected. I can't imagine losing a child in any way, but this would seem especially difficult.

Such a shame that these brave soldiers are dying for nothing. Once we pull our forces out of this war things will continue on as if we were never there.

Condolences, along with thoughts and prayers going out to Pfc. Goodine's family and friends. I am deeply saddened every time I hear of the loss of another fine young soldier.
