Like many of you, I've had a hard time finding a reliable source of WW's. That changed today. I had the choice of shooting a pistol or rifle match this morning. I choose the rifle match, and ran into a High Power friend that owns a scrap yard. While he won't sell to the public, he generously agreed to bring a few buckets to next months HP match. Finding a source topped my 780-25x/800!

Get as much as you can now, the lead ww is a dying breed.

That is a good score!
I just got an email back from our local "U-Pullit" auto place. He wanted 0.55/lb for wheel weight, or $1/lb if "He pullsit". So I'm definitely going to collect my own. 2 local tire shops are ok with collecting them. One guy wants .25/weight (which is insane) and the other guy gives them for free. The bad thing is there must be a bunch of us cleaning him out on a regular basis because I'm lucky to walk out with a couple handfuls.

I think the cheap/free lead days here in WI are over. My range doesn't allow mining, the indoor range mines it's own and sells it (can't blame them), the radiator shop owner looked at me like I was nuts.... I have my eyes peeled, but really wish I'd have been collecting 10 years ago!

I had that same kind of thing happen to me a couple years ago...Met a guy on the pistol range...just target shooting. Following a little chit-chat, I commented that I cast my own bullets. He said that he had a pallet full of lead pipe in his yard and his wife was giving him hell to get rid of it. In the end, I ended up with 600 pounds, and he gave it to me for free! My best score ever.

I went to a U Pullit scrap yard and the guy agreed to let me take of all of the WW's in the yard. After working for 4 hours, I ended up with 60 lbs of WW's which he charged me $.25 / lb. So much for that effort, I'll persue different sources.

Good luck buying from scrap yards. None of the yards I have been to would sell to the public. Although I get the impression, from other posts and my scrap yard owner friend, that sometimes they will trade.
