I am just starting in this world of bullet casting. In the world of shot making the media that the molten lead is poured into is quite important. One of the favourites is fabric conditioner.

Has any work been done on the relative benefits of different quenching media with bullet casting?

I dont have all the gear to do a load of experiments, but i would be interested in knowing.

Thanks troopers

I think in shot it's important because of the need to have perfectly round (or as close as possible) pellets for a shotgun, and a viscuous liquid works to slow the drop of the shot pellet to the bottom so they don't dent.

With Boolits, it's not as important because the slug is already at the solid point before being unmolded.

I use a 2-qt stainless-steel bowl from a junk bin, with a shop rag in the bottom and 1/2 full of tap water.
