Team.

Christchurch is getting its first snow of the year today. We probably only get 1 or 2 falls to sea level per year and this one is EARLY. Not much by most of your standards but probably 3 inches since 7am (now 11am).

Yeap, that's the sound of winter.

Bury it and don't tell anyone you got it!

Here in Arizona, we see that kind of stuff mainly when we look into the freezer section of our refrigerators.

Last week it was 112 degrees outside. Today it's down-right brisk outside. It's only about 100 degrees.

Whoa, snow is not letting up. Must have double the amount now. Most inconvenient. 0.3C outside.

What did one snowman say to the other snowman?

CAN YOU SMELL CARROT!?

2" of snow on top of the divide this morning. I think Butte has an inch or so uptown.

I should not be surprised at the mention of snow this time of year, having grown up in MT and having snow on the 4th of July...

But then I forget that the northern hemisphere is not the only hemisphere...Jeff, get the sleds out and have some fun.

+1 you can always put another sweater/ coat on, once you is naked there is nothing more to do but sweat. If you have to luxury of ac it still costs money to run versus putting another log on the fire, which is free (well mostly). Sorry if that last phrase got a song stuck in your head :).

Any chance we could borrow a little, it's the offical ski season opening W/End over here & the white gold is sadly lacking. [smilie=b:

Now riddle me this Batman.

Why is it that the trees that you don't care for survive snow but the ones you are rather fond of collapse under the weight? What's that about?

My guttering is a little bent out of shape but will survive. I will snow strap it all now. Looks like "Climate change" is dictating more snow for us.

Jeff, when I get a late snow here after the trees have leaved out, I'll go out with a pole, and give them a bit of a thrashing to get the load off of them. It will certainly break them, if you have a wet heavy snow.

I shoveled snow for two weeks at our Colorado house in December, I want NO MORE of that business. Found out right quick what happens if you don't keep it shoveled off the walks, steps, and driveway. Never once have I had to shovel snow here. If there's enough to shovel (every 10-15 years we get 3-4"), the whole area shuts down and everyone just stays home until it melts!

Given the kind of winter that was experienced in much of the Northern Hemisphere (except for the eastern US) and especially Alaska, I suggest you batten down the hatches and have some extra food with a propane stove so you don't have to leave the house when the power goes out. last winter was the worst in almost a century around the Bering Sea and the ice still hasn't retreated all the way.

Took Bella dog for a run in the forest this afternoon. 11km circuit. Still quite a covering of snow in places and in the shade the temp can't have been much above freezing. A good run none the less and Bella still go in the water hole for a drink/paddle.
