I'm trying to use some 255 gr lswc bullets which came from Bull-X. They look like Lyman 452424 which is supposed to have an OAL of 1.575 to 1.600. But when I seat the bullets to use the crimping groove I get an OAL of 1.653. What should I do, try crimping over the shoulder? Thanks

yep over the shoulder so it looks like a swc.
it takes up more room in the case than a rnfp does seated this way..

If the longer length will fit in your cylinder I wouldn't worry about it. Just shoot em'.

Do they seat/feed in the intended firearm? If so, leave them alone. If no, crimp over the leading drive band (start low on the load and work up). Seating deeper does raise pressures a tad.

+1, my BH .45 will fit my 340 gr boolits seated out almost to the end of the cylinder with just a little room to spare. Works just fine. If you seat to deep it can increase pressures dramatically.

the 454424 will fit in my black hawk in the groove but will not feed in any of my leverguns unless i crimp over the shoulder.
the lyman rnfp 452664 will crimp in the groove and feed through the levergun and fit my blackhawks cylinders.
