I am going to wyoming next week prarie dog shootin. I'm using my savage .223 for my primary rifle but I have a savage .243 for a back up. I'm using the J word here .....58 vmax bullets for my .243 . I have IMR 7383, WC846, Imr 4895, all surplus powders anyone try any of these for this application? I'm using WC846 for my .223 will this work for the .243 as well? Thanks: 8mmshooter

using WC846 for my .223 will this work for the .243 as well? NO, 846 is too fast. H380 is the fastest of the fast for this case and bore size. Use any of the 852s, which should range between 4350 minus - 4831 plus ... felix

8mm, I saw your query on the AR forum last week, but hesitated to answer because I've only used jacketed bullets of 80-90grs. in my .243Win. (Ruger #1). With such bullets I've obtained excellent results with IMR 7383 and standard LR primers, but I'm not sure how it will perform with the lighter ones. You can get enough 7383 into a .243 case, particularly in hot weather, to create high pressures/flattened primers with the 80-90 grainers so be careful. I'd start at 38gr. 7383 and use a chronograph, but under no circumstances would I exceed 41gr. Btw, with the heavier bullets, 7383 is a bit slower than IMR 4350 in the .243Win.
