Hi Fellows,

I sorted out all my 308 cases.
I now have a bunch of FC 308 WIN cases. I don't recall of they are military or sporting cases!

No Nato markings, as we know military cases are thicker & should be loaded lighter then sporting cases.
Can anyone help me out ?

Thanks,

Sounds like commercial Federal cases to me.
Federal cases are marked FC for Federal Cartridge company....dale

If not mistaken they are Military (FC) all the civilian Federal I've seen have said the full name. If you deprime them you should be able to tell due to the crimp.

i have brass in various calibers that IS commercial that is FC headstamp. if it is not crimped it is most definitely commercial.

If is is marked FC along with a 2 diget date it is military. Some of it has crimped primers some don't.

If it is marked "FC 308 Win" it is commercial.

federal is starting to crimp the primers on some of their commercial cases now also so that isn't an indicator.
just work up a load in them and don''t worry about it.
case capacity differs between brands of cases anyways.

Jake has it right, I never saw any small arms ammo that had the commercial designation on the headstamp while I in the Navy.

FC 308 is commercial. This is definitely what the headstamp has been on Gold Medal Match
.308 for a long time.

Hi Fellows,

Thanks for all the replys! I bought a new Howa 1500 in 308
(20 inch heavy fluted barrel) & wanted to make sure I don't over load the rifle!

I tried weighting the FC cases against two brands of known military cases & the weight's were all over the place!
Weighted ten cases of each brand - added up the total weights & discovered NOTHING that made any sense!:(:-?

All of you are most helpful THANKS!:drinks:
