Noob question.

Would it make sense for me to slug my 1911 before buying a sizer die or will I be ok going by spec (.451)? It has a brand new SA barrel.

Slug it to make sure, I detect a little apprehension about slugging the bore.
It's not difficult to do and once it's done you know for sure.
OR, you can get a .452 die and hope it works, chances are it will.

if not sizing then get a .452 die bigger will be best without knowing, but all my 1911's shoot .452

Welcome to the CastBoolits.
Slug your bore for effect. It's easy and good practice. Clean well beforehand and oil lightly.
I load and shoot .452 in my Taurus.

Thanks gentlemen. I appreciate the advice. It's always good to talk to someone who knows more than me. I will slug.

I agree slug, but...........

The chances are very good, probly 99%, that the 452 sizing die will do just fine.

Same, same. You have a good chance if you just use .452 in .45 ACP.

Go to the fishing store and get a barrel sinker.
Just make sure it is lead and not zink.
Clean your barrel and put a little lube
In the barrel before you start.
Then use a wooden dowel and you should
be OK.:guntootsmiley:
