Looks like more Plumbers Lead to me. Probably pretty close to Pure Lead!
NO idea who made it though.

These were often cast into strips like yours by a local plumbing company with a proprietary mold. The only thing that I could come up with is San Jose Plumbing (SJ?) and there is no way to know if it was produced by them.

Thanks for the reply. I do know it is an alloy of some kind, and med-hard. Was hoping to find out what the make up is, if SJ is a standard alloy.

I just got around to cutting off one of the sections - 6lbs worth and putting it in a Lee 20lb pot to see how it casts and check it with the LBT hardness tester.
Never got that far! The melted stuff never did turn to liquid. It got a thick, sludge on top like zink and I did not have to look at it long to know it was something other than what We make bullets out of!
I will have to clean out the pot and my ladle real well and I am going to take the "stuff" back to the scrap yard and see if I can get equal weight in lead pipe. Hopefully, I can convince them to take it back. Hopefully, I can clean my casting equipment enough to not have a problem.
This is the first time in 40 years I got fooled. Glad I caught it quick!
What is that "SJ" foundry alloy made of?:groner:
