My new Dollar Store tin (steel plated or coated) when used for casting ingots stick like a ......gun. I lube with old candles and/ or used motor oil to no avail. Is there anything that works better as a release agent. Was thinking of burning off the coating on tins with my propane brush burner then trying the candle. Would spray silicone work any better?? afish4570[smilie=s:[smilie=s:

They are likely tin plated, so when you pour molten lead into them, they effectively solder the ingots to themselves.

I just kept banging them on the ground until the ingots fell out, and after doing this a few times, the tin had all been removed. Now they are a bit battered but nice and rusty so the lead will no longer stick.

If you can find aluminium ones, they won't stick.

If you can find condiment cups at Walmart (98 cents for 4 of them) www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Condiment-Cups/14964954 they drop around 2 lbs from WW and the ingots drop right out. I know that doesn't answer your question but if the muffin tins become too much trouble.
