Weight set weights made out of?

I have a weight set that is atleast 10 years old. I do not think that it is made from lead but what else would they make it out of? Can it be used for making projectiles? Is it just steel?

Free weights / barbell weights? Lots of them are made of concrete.

Cast iron, sand, concrete, etc. If cheap enough the weights are great for stabilizing work benches, camera tripods, tool stands, and for clamping glue ups.
