I have a favorite Saeco mold for my 44 Special CBs. It is the 200 grain truncated cone bullet. I am going to start reloading 44-40 (44 WCF) and would like to use this same mold for that caliber. I normally resize these bullets to .429 and use rooster red lube for reloading 44 special to use in my Vaquero and Winchester 73. Does anyone see any problem with me resizing this same bullet to .427 as long as the crimp groove still holds enough lube? Saeco makes another mold for a 200 grain cowboy bullet but I prefer this TC design and think it will feed as reliable or better than the round nose flat point traditional design. This ammunition will be used in a new Cimarron-Colt Lightning. I don't see any downside to this solution but I wonder if I'm missing something in this simple solution.

you are missing the bbl size on your 44-40.
many of the new ones are 429-430 not the older 427 jaxketed size.
some die sets limit your boolit diameter not the chamber.
measure the inside of a fired case and your bbl youll know right off what you need to do.

I also have the Saeco #420 200 gr tc in a 8 cavity , its my go to bullet for 99% of my 44 mag shooting in handguns & rifles , its a great bullet and accurate with many different loads & guns.from 700 to at least 1300 fps , never tried higher velocity loads
I see no problem sizing them to .427 if needed but slug your cyl throats and size at or .001 over for best accuracy . For most of my 44 mags i size at .430, but i have 2 others with .432 & .433 chamber throats and with them i size a beagled mold bullets to .433 for best accuracy.

It does feed well form leaver action rifles

You are correct. I didn't think to slug the barrel. I'll do that next before I go any farther. Thanks for the reminder. Duh!
