I'm just getting into the boolit reloating and have a couple questions about powder.
I would like to have a single powder for both .410 and 45-70 is this possible?
The bullet I have chosen is a flat point 405 gr from a lee mold fed into a Handi Rifle.
I want to keep the .410 light, as it is g-g ma's old Iver Johnson I want to be nice to.
It seems I can only get Hodgdon locally, but I need to look more.
cheers,
chriso

Try H-4227. It won't produce high level performance in the .45/70, but it'll produce good black powder level loads, or maybe a tad better, and it's a once-classic powder for the .410 shotgun. If you don't get accuracy from the .45/70, change your bullet before you change powders. An 8 lb. keg of it will feed both guns for a long, long time unless you're a real volume shooter.

I'm a bit slow, and not catching your meaning. I thought about BP, but I'd like to save that for the musket.

Blackwater: I'm not looking for more than 100 yards, really. I'll load a few and try to get to a range soon. I was looking into getting some more variety in my mold collection, some 300-ish gr would be nice...

This is more out of convenience, I'd like to only have one powder when I reload on vacation, it keeps the kit smaller. I realize the great difference between shot and bullet loads.
Thanks for the help!
cheers,
chriso

either the 4227 or 2400 would be a great powder. both are really good choices for multi use. dad uses lilgun due to burns much cleaner
