All the numbers for that round are excellent except the upkeep cost. Such a shame...

On another medium we would see the newbies come in regularly, trying to figure out whether to get the Lapua, the CheyTec, or just a 50BMG, they wanted it all (including the cost and recoil, apparently). Explaining to them that you still needed to know range, windage and holdover just didn't register.

Many would just disappear after making a decision, probably found out the true costs. Some would get it and then immediately start complaining about cost per shot, driving distance to 1,000 yard ranges, not enough time to shoot, in other words, their big bad rifle didn't fit their lifestyle. Several I remember in particuar would blow through a series of cheap scopes/rings/mounts and then it would dawn on them, a $2000 rifle needs at least a $1,000 scope.

I think big bad hardware is cool, but I resisted all the expensive stuff I have no particular need for. Well, there is that custom walnut stocked rifle with the custom cut checkering in my safe.... :)

Yep Jeff,
It's dried up over here. Unlike the glory days when it was plentiful and cheap.

I only had to spend around $700 for the scope on my Windrunner (50bmg). Thank god I stocked up on components when they were relatively cheap. That .338LM brass is pretty pricey compared to fifty cal.
