Quite a while ago I found some 32 S&W long brass on the bench at the range. The brass has long since gone to the scrapper as it really looked stressed beyond further use. That is part one where the mystery is set up.

Today at my favorite gun stuff supply house I saw a pile of those russian revolvers that are chambered in 7.62X38 . The Nagants I think they are called. Next to them was a card that stated that you could shoot 32 S&W long and or 32 H&R mag in them . It also stated that the cases would bulge a little bit. This is the solution I believe as to where those brass came from.

This poses another mystery, Why on earth would a business make a statement like that, Their Lawyer must not have anything to do. The cases I picked up were really bulged to a scarey degree.

I thought that with the Russian Naggants, you could buy an optional "aftermarket/recent manufacturer" 32 cylinder to shoot those rounds.

There was no mention of a new or different cylinder. If there was another cylinder it was not made clear and and was ripe to be misunderstood. It is a nice elegant idea though. I think I would get 32/20 brass and use that.

frkelly74,
cheese1566 got it right. Century International made those replacement cylinders to fire the cheaper 32 S&W. I bought 1 for about $50 when the revolvers were first imported.

you can also fire .32 s&w long in a .310 martini cadet.

Well those cylinders were in .32 ACP and I think they were made in Korea. I have shot .32 S&W long and .32 H&R magnum in both of mine with good results, I also reload .32-20 cases with the Lee dies. If you have oversized chambers they will swell but mine don't swell much at all.

bob208, I went right out to the shop and tried that. Sound like shooting some low powered load inside a 55gal. drum, case expands about .016. It shoots alright, but don't think I'd want to reload any of them. Bullet is way undersized for my bore too. Goat

Can you put up a picture? I would like to see if it looks like the ones I scrapped. Thanks

It doesn't really show all that much. The whole case above the web is swelled nice and even. I'm probably not developing much pressure as the bullet is undersized--I forget what the bore slugged but it's a lot more than this factory boolit--and the shots left all kinda powder residue in the bore.
