Team.

Lots of you have got Al's new baby the NOE 269 145 FN but I am not seeing any reports.

I got my 3 cavity a week or so back. Another work of art by NOE I must say. It was procured for my FAT41 Carcano cos I got bored and evil Al posted in 'vendor sales' that he had some spare.

My initial concerns that the nose of the boolit might be a spot undersized have been laid to rest after a trip to the range today. I load up some 15 BHN boolits with FC II .008 gas checks sized .269 over Alliant 2400 in charges of 15/16/17/18gr. The powder is topped with one of my wool wads. I know! 2400 ain't positioin sensitive blah, blah. Well it burns BETTER when held in place in my experience. Extreme spread on the 18gr load was 4fps. The 15gr load had an ES or 9 from memory.

Accuracy: No photos yet sorry. All shot at 50m and 3 shots only for initial tests and unlike the Cruise Missile the 269 145 produced perfectly round boolit holes. TRUE! The 15gr load had two shots almost touching and I let the third go low in the sight picture; dang it. 16 and17gr were very average. 18gr clustered 3 shots into just over an inch. Velocities ranged from 16-1800fps.

More to follow.

i use a ton of 2400 and tip every round into the rifle.
it has a tendency to tighten up groups, tipping it forward has a tendency to make velocities higher.
even in the field i am careful to make sure the rifle is held either bbl up or level from shot to shot when using 2400.
if for other hunting situations i flat change powders and use a filler.
because i may get a down hill shot.
switching to a pistol primer and using more 2400 has helped alleviate some of this, but so has cutting the load and using a filler.

Shot again today. Retrial of 15 and 18gr of 2400 and 19 and 20gr test. 19 and 20 opened up but 18gr grouped the three shots at 50m into approx 5/8 inch. Same for the 15gr load sans the shot I let go high. :-(

18gr is producing 1810fps so I am happy to top out the 2400 there. Might try a goodly load of H4350 over the weekend.

I loaded some rounds with both 2400 and 4198. Wheel weights with a little pewter(less than 0.5 lb/25lbWW) .I heat treat my bullets 450F for 1 hr then water quench. The loads for 2400 were 14.5, 15.0,15.5. For 4198 were 22.0, 22.5, 23.0, 23.5, 24.0. Since I had a friends son helping me shoot the results were a bit inconclusive. He is a great shot with a pistol, but I am not so sure he is that good at rifle. The IMR 4198 was a bust. The 22g, and 22.5g loads showed some semblance of groups but nothing worth pursuing. 15g of 2400 was very good. Grouping some where around 1.25" at 100 yards. I didn't get to meticulous with these load I just wanted to get out and shoot. The bullets cast very well. Will be investing in a thermometer since these seem to need a fairly high temp to fill the lube channels out crisply. I did shoot some of the 2400 loads through a propane tank. It left nice quarter size holes on the back side. Next I would like to see what 4895 or Alliant R12 will do and see if there is a sweet spot.

I tried this boolit out yesterday. I think your 4198 load is way too hot. My 17.0 4198 load was 1656 fps,
I'm going to try the 2400 load next.

Your thread motivated me to get out and do some shooting!
Got some of these cast a few weeks ago, sized .267", Hornady GC, lubed with BAC.
Shot in a 1922 Carl Gustav m96 at 100y.
I started at 10g of SR4756, that's become my 'let's try this first' load. Kind of a windy, grey day, not the best for load development.
With a front rest, my best group was right at 1.8". The rest of them were in the 2-3" range.
This rifle shoots jacketed bullets really well, I'm going to try to get there with cast.
I'm going to try the 4756 load again on a better day, as well as some with 2400.

I shot the 16 grain 2400 load today. I used no filler. I shot it prone with sling at 200 yards. It held the 10 ring on the SR1 target. I need to Chrony this load. This works for me. NO FILLER!!!

try tipping a cartridge back and forth and shooting it over a chrono-.
you'll see for yourself if it is or not.
Ed changed from the red dot to 2400 because of lower pressures not because of sensitivity.
