Anybody familiar with these? I have a chance to buy one, new, stainless, for about $350. Is that a fair amount for that gun?

I've the Rossi M92 rfle in .45 Colt. I'm not up on the current values for them but that sounds like a fair price to me, perhaps others have a better idea of price. If you get it we'll talk loads, ok?

I have the blued Puma 92 in .454 Casull, which is about the same gun. Mine was $350 when I bought it several years ago, but the price has risen considerably. It sounds like a good deal to me.

I think Buckshot recently acquired one of these, maybe he will chime in here.

Larry, IF I get it, I have an incurable itch to try 1680 in it. Seems to me that big case was made for it. I don't plan on trying to make it a .454 Casull but it ain't going to see any Frontier Model type loads, either.

Hmmmm....had not thought of trying 1680 but I do have about 3/4 lb of it. My rifle has a cresant buttplate so I've kind of steared clear of heavy loads (makes sense for a guy who shoots .458 equivalent loads out of his Siamese Mauser eh?). Guess it's time to get bold and give it a try. I've a marveless Lyman 452490 GC mold that makes a 245 gr SWC bullet GC'd and lubed. I've often thought of trying it up through 16-1700 fps or so. Should be able to do that in the M92's 24" barrel without to much stress on the action, not sure about the shoulder though. I should stop whining and get with it huh?

I saw one here last year, 495 new.
The 92 action is very strong, Lyman HB of the '70's had 205gr at 2100fps plus.
Many thousand were converted to .44 mag. in the '60's and '70's.

This one has the crescent buttplate too. I'm not crazy about that, I'm no the Cowboy type. I'll get a slip-on Limbsaver for it. It's only a 20 inch barrel, which I prefer but it would be nice if it was octagonal... It is stainless and I think it's a killer price.

Now Scrounger let me know if you need to keep that starline brass. M O should be there sat or mon but with a new purchase we won't hold ya to it and no hard feelings. Aaron

That is certainly decent of you, Joatman. I'll know about the rifle tomorrow. Isn't it odd how things work out sometimes? Maybe subconscionly I knew I was going to buy one three weeks ago or whenever I bought the brass. Actually I'm trying to steal the rifle; I've offerred him $300 and he acts like he might take it! We'll see....

I bought one a number of years ago in 45 Colt, 24in oct to round barrel, blued, and I believe that it was nearly that price then. WW 296 gave 1500fps with a 300 grainer, but it did smart a bit. For a fun load 10gr of Unique behind a 255gr worked well.

Well it seems I'm the proud owner of a Rossi Puma Carbine, paid $300 shipped. And to make it sweeter, I snuck it right out from under Marlin Junkie and Floodgate's nose in northern California. Overnight cogitation and a look in the gun safes makes me think I will probably not get around to shooting it for a long time, if ever; I just have so many projects waiting for me... Still, it was a good gun and a good deal and I've never even looked at a Winchester 92 clone before. Another factor against using it is according to Felix, the .45 Colt brass and sloppy chambers make it seem to be an uphill battle. And I'm well supplied in .44 Magnum, rifle, brass, and molds.

.............One rainy day a couple years ago, me and a couple Burrito Shooters piled in the car and kinda made a visit to several gun & sporting goods places around the area. We stopped at a Turners Sporting goods (guns and fishing) store and they had one like that. Color cased action and a half oct to round bbl in 45 Colt. It looked very nice and was in there on consignment for $300.

I was about to put it on layaway but tried to be mature about it :-) I think that was on a Wednesday or Thursday. I called them Saturday and asked about it and it had been sold. One of the guys with us is really into SASS and at the time he said he thought that the half round-octagon bbl had been a special deal and was NLA. Apparently that was so, as when I was ordering mine I asked about that and was told no such option was shown.

If it wasn't tax time you would have had to pay more for it... I came mighty close to bidding on that rifle!

My FFL's wholesale price for a Puma 45 colt is 329+ shipping so that is a good price, a 454 is $369 + also have a 460 Ruger the same as the 454.
Had an older model 44-40 in a Rossi and have kicked myself for selling it off, have tried to buy it from the man that I sold it to but he has quit talking about it.

I bought a second used stock from the guy that fixes Pumas for the company. Cost $30. Cheap cosidering I couldn't shoot it with the original stock. I pounded the butt plate flat and filled the gap with epoxy.

How do I get in touch with that guy? I don't like the crescent shoulder breaker, maybe I can get an extra stock and put a recoil pad on it.

I picked up the Rossi '92 in .38/357 about 3 years ago while visiting a pawn shop. It's the short barrel without the safety.

Wasn't planning on buying it, but when I offered $220 cash and he said OK, I began to wonder if something was wrong with it.

Turns out all it needed was cleaning and boy is it slick!

A .45 would be even better.

Scrounger, you might luck out and have a smaller chamber. The only thing about the Rossi's that I don't like in the old models is that the firing pins were made way too hard. They will for sure break in time. Hopefully, these newer ones, how new is unknown, won't have such. Pay attention to variation in primer hits. That would be a first sign, assuming nothing else is hanging up the travel, or the hammer power. ... felix

The Rossi 92's are good strong leveractions. Easy to slick up too.:-D
