Wifee and I spent the day at the flea market and I picked up a few goodies. My first time at this, not much of a yard sale kind a fella. Anyways I picked up 3lbs of pewter and 2lbs of 60/40. Paid $8 for the pewter and $8 for the solder.

2 pcs of [HOLLAND] pewter, 1pc of [ RAY SILVER CO. ] pewter, 1pc of [ CONCORD ] pewter and 1pc of [ P.O. HANDICRAFT ] 97% Tin.

That stein is 97% tin and really has the tin crackle to it. The other pieces must be older pewter? they dont crackle but sure do crush easily, almost like lead. Can these be mixed as if they were Tin?

Pewter hallmarks will say pewter.
Beware of Britannia metal. It is NOT pewter.

That stein,if its not all scratched up, looks almost too good to melt down doesn't it? Unfortunately, its the heaviest piece.

Might want to seee what those are worth as is before melting them! If they have some decent value, the proceeds may buy you more lead, tin, etc. than you have in the items.

melted it all down and poured into an old lee 2 cav mold, Got 100 boolits weighing 162 gr +-. Adding one of these to 1lb of ww should give me a nice addition of tin.

Hey, that looks like a vintage Slurpenmeister!

Oh well, too late...

That's the trouble with pewter, we now have several carry-type candle holders,
3 ducks, a cupholder (?) with pheasants around it, etc., etc.

It's all BOOLIT junk to me boys. My lead is free, my tin is not. :D Well actually my lead does cost me a dozen donuts for the boys in the shop.[smilie=1:

Hehe--Yup, I can relate to a few here. I grab all pewter I can with a good price. There are occasional pieces that sit on a shelf or mantle here in the house with a "reserve-melting" status, which means they're pretty enough that I won't melt 'em till I need 'em. :D So long as I have tin coins on the alloy shelf, the decorative pieces just retain their current shape, but live in a state of nervousness.
