Just tested some 50/50 SOWW/COWW that I heat treated back in December and it tested at 28. The same batch that was not heat treated tests at ~10. I was surprised.

I have seen BHN numbers that high for straight isotope lead that was quenched. Didn't matter if it was directly from the mold or using the oven method.

I am a little surprised that a 50/50 mix of SOWW and COWW would get that high. I would have expected that to top out around 20. But the alloy content for those products can be all over the place. I would guess you have some alloy rich in a grain refiner like antimony or maybe copper.

That's what was so surprising. I have seen low 20s before with basically the same mix.

Hrrrmm. Might be time to work up some super-hot, super-fast loads with those!

I know the commercial cast "18 BHN" boolits I buy lead like crazy in my .45ACP at about 800 FPS--they're too hard and so is the lube.

No problem there. These are for my 454 Casull :)
