I put a tang sight on my Rossi 1892 "Golden Boy". Took it to the range and put a target at 50 yards. Shooting with a sandbag rest, here is the results:

I actually had a bunch of targets that looked like this, but if I posted them all you folks would say I'm bragging!...

This rifle is fast becoming my favorite lever gun!

Green Dot powder under a cast Lee452-255RF with Rooster Red tumble lube. This target was shot after 250 rounds without cleaning the bore! Not even a wet or dry patch was put down the bore.

Greetings
Not seen one of that model. Have an Interarms and a Rossi in storage up north there. That is the same boolit I use. Very handy rifles for woods tromping and no need to fear any critter east of big muddy. 17 grains of 2400 makes one fine everyday load. 19 grains is getting to the top and a good thumper. 8-10 grains Unique are a bit milder but would still put a perminent hurt on whatever it smacks into.

Nice thing about this rifle is it showed the same accuracy with a 250g Big Lube bullets also. And I've shot it from 800fps to 1600fps....It simply isn't particular about bullets or velocity.

That's a beautiful gun. I have been hoping to get one but lately, either I can't find one when I have the $$$ or when I do find one, I don't have the $$$. Some day it will all come together, hopefully!

BTW, that is a "Yellow Boy", not a "Golden Boy" which are made by Henry Arms.

Very nice looking 1866 Yellow Boy. I've always wanted one of them '92 Rossi's to get started into CASS shooting. Maybe before I die, I hope. BC

It is a 1892 Winchester model not the Yellow Boy but a nice finish regardless. I love my Rossi 92 in 45 colt also and find it very accurate also.

The real term should be "Gunmetal Boy"..... :-)

Here's one. I do like the looks of those.

I stand corrected. Thanks joec for clearing that up. I don't think I'd ever seen one with a brass frame. Guess that's what threw me. I'd like to have either one--1866 Yellow Boy or an 1892 Rossi in .45 Colt.

Of course I'd have to sell my Winchester 94AE .45 Colt before I could purchase a new or used one. I just like the 24" bbl. better than the little carbine 16" bbl. Also it holds more rounds than my little carbine. I think mine holds only 8 so it would not do in CAS shooting. BC

My Rossi 92 in 45 Colt is the 20" octagon barrel model, case hardened/blued finish. I was looking for the 24" but couldn't find one but the 20" came along so I took it and other than a bit lighter it is about as accurate at the distances I shoot at.

Roy has the Steve's Gunz safety plug in his the same as I do in mine. That is the biggest problem I had with mine is hitting the safety on when I didn't expect it. Removed it for the plug and have never looked back.

beautifull rifle! I agree they shoot well and aren't bad looking. Don't know if you have refinished the woodwork, but on mine, all eight of them had decent looking wood after sanding the ugly brown finish off and treating them with tru-oil.
Good shooting too!

I have three, 2 20" round barrels and a 24" half octagon half round, in 45C and a 20" 357 they all shoot like the OP's do.

I have a .45 Colt and a .357, and they're great. Easily among my favorite rifles. What's not to like about a gun that looks that good and shoots better?

I own 2 of the Rossi 92 pre safety rifles in 45LC. Both have the 20 inch round barrel, and both will shoot ragged holes for 5 shots at 50 yards. I shoot 10 grs of Unique on the Lee 255g RNFP boolit and have taken deer out to a known 150 yard distance with no problems. I don't think that there is anything here in North American I would be afraid to go after with that gun if it was the only gun I had. That 255 gr boolit will shoot through a foot or more of meat and bone inside of 100 yds. Even a moose or a Griz, would drop with a well placed shot or two, not that I would go out of my way to shoot at one with it.

Best wishes,

Joe

I know the marlin and winchester groupies don't have much good to say about these rossi/puma/hartford 92s but damned they can shoot well and look pretty good. Maybe they don't have the nicest looking or fitted stocks and maybe they have to be fine tuned a little but for the price they can't be beat! And thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

No Disagreement here.
My LSI Stainless Steel in 45 LC is the most fun (per grain of powder) unit I have. I too had an issue with that lawyer-thunk-up safety. I installed one of the sights from Steve's Gunz. It made a sweet combination. Nice to see so many liking theirs.
