Sorry guys cause I forgot to take the camera, but if I had, you would have seen my 11YO Grandson shooting my M1 Garand, a Turk Mauser, his Dad's AR15 & a couple 22s along with a 38spl.

I hope to take his next younger brother to the range Thursday & this time I hope I can remember to load the camera.....maybe it needs to go into the truck now:) FWIW, this will be his 7YO brother's first official range trip. We're going to take his Cricket, my MKIII and his Mom's 9MM Ruger.

Good job!

I understand your excitement. Last summer I took my 4 yr old grandson and his 5 yr old sister shooting for the first time... at their request!

Because they had been asking to go, my wife and I bought a Chipmunk .22 single shot. It was just ok for the granddaughter and still a bit long for her younger brother.

They both enjoyed it very much. My grandson kept asking, "Five more times. Five more times."

They are already asking when we are going this season.

Good stuff.

Nice job, Rick N Bama. It warms my heart to see children interested in the shooting sports. Keep up the good work and maybe they'll be members of Castboolits in the future.

Next, you're gonna have to teach them to cast when they get a little older. Lol. BC

my 8 year old son decided he wanted to try the LC9 tonight , he has tried a full size smith 9mm but never the sub compact

he did just fine , with kids and semi auto hand guns i away load 1 at a time , that way the gun is empty if any thing happens after the shot is fired

yes they were cast boolits 356-120TC

when i am comfortable that they are good , then i may load more

Saturday, is our muzzle loader shoot for 4H , i hear we have 14 shooter signed up for this year , it shoudl be a good day , we will see if i ever get away form the bench or if they keep me in a supply of miss firing guns all day

WARNING WARNING
My grandsons are now teenagers and the good news is they love to shoot anything that goes bang and they have worked their way up to the the largest calibers available including my .45-70 pistol. The bad news is two teenagers can shoot a lot of ammo. Feeding them when they visit is a challenge but feeding them on the range is worse. They help with reloading but can shoot it faster than we can make it.

The 11yo knows a bit about casting & he likes to load ammo, with my supervision of course.

Yesterday we were the first to arrive at the range, so we spent about 20 minutes mining the berm to probably take out more lead than we shot.

Keep up the good work, its nice to see the kids are intrested in shooting etc.

My kids are the same in england, shoot, cast and reload, under a watchfull eye of course.

Shame you did not load the camera, pics would have been great.

Good going guys,
I bought 150 acres in the Ozark Mountains just to take my kids and grand kids shooting.(well me too) Life is great there; in fact one son and his family is homesteading there and won't leave. I can't get there enough! Been 10 years now since the greatest purchase of my life. I can't figure out who is the happiest in the family.

bring out the front stuffer , it slows them down and makes them think about what they are doing
they get a handle on basic reloading without even knowing it.

my 8 year old sorts brass and de-caps sometimes

Take a kid shooting and you keep him off the streets. My great nephew has come a long way since we first took him out into the bush. He's a great shot and wants to eat everything! That's him in my avatar with his first hare. He was a troubled youngster but now is doing quite well.

303 guy you make an excellent point , boys will be boys
that means that they want to try adventurous stuff , explore , and such

sure a few will be settled with music or arts , cars , but some need that adventure , and exploration

the adrenalin rush that comes from hunting prey

and chances are if they go looking for it some place other than the bush they will find it to not be very legal , or safe

my wife and daughter went to a book club last evening , the book was Tom Sawyer, in part of their discussion they talked about what was the same , and what was different

while technology , travel , transportation , fashion, and such all changed a lot

kids trying to get out of doing their chores , make monetary or barter profit from a situation, wanting to explore and adventure , their general lack of forethought for safety, and the poking and prodding back and forth with siblings and other kids, putting a frog down a girls dress.

if you can guide their exploration in a safer manner , especially their exploration of guns , while at the same time getting them to work for what they want , rewards for their labors start small and make them harder , develops good work ethic

You've given me a plan for the kid! A plan to develop his work ethic. :drinks:

Those pictures by Olevern are great to see!

Nice going Olevern. Those are some really great pics. Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid taking the old man's rifle out to shoot some birds. He would only allow me to shoot BlueJays and never "to kill a mockingbird". Lol. BC

Took a 13 year old and a 9 year old out today to a fishing derby (tagged trout with cash prizes, annual event, Wellsville, N.Y.) The 13 y.o. was frustrated that he didn't catch anything but going back for another try after church tomorrow (2 day event). The 9 y.o. is very hyperactive with poor focus (A.D.H.D.) and enjoyed it for awhile, but it seems he knows himself pretty well, as he brought something to entertain himself when he got bored with fishing. Great kids, take them out fishing, shooting, dirtbike riding and just generally hang out with them (just a big kid myself)

I had to go to my club on Saturday to hang a couple of new signs on the fence. SWMBO was working so my girls tagged along and Kiera, 7 years, asked if she could shoot and told me the 'quiet' rifle was her choice (suppressed .32-20 Martini). Shooting off sand bags at 25m she cleaned up a squirrel target big time. Not only has her mother claimed the Martini now Kiera wants it too!

I told her if you are going to shoot it you have to learn how to load the ammo. I'll do the casting, you load.

One of the biggest thrills i've had recently was watching my son pass on what I"d taught him to his son. What a day that was !
If u want a kid or any new shooter to be a good shot the 1st time out,get a red dot !

ya,ya Iknow they need to learn iron sights, but young kids don't want to sit there and be instructed on iron sights and how to line them up..they want to shoot and make things fall over !! LOL

Then one day I made the mistake of letting the grand son look thru my scope at the 50 yard targets....good by scope !!! it's on his gun now.[smilie=b: LOL

AND HEY,don't forget the ladies, they really do like to shoot if given the chance.

You are all to be commended. My hat is off to anyone who takes the time to perpetuate our herititage. Some of my fondest memories are of shooting and hunting with my dad and Grandparents and of teaching my son and grandson's the pleasures of these sports. We are all fortunate to be able to spend quality time with our family.
