I have been furtunate and have secured a pretty large supply of recovered lead that was originally used in sealing large plumbing pipes. I have used WW for most of my casting in the past. WW are proving to be more and more difficult to find in my area. I am looking for suggestions as to what to added to my lastest soft lead find to increase its hardness. I cast for 38, 357, 45 acp, 45 colt, 44 mag, 12 gauge slugs and buckshot.

Plumbers lead is usually pure lead. If you can lay your hands on some linotype, it makes it really easy to whip up an alloy suited to any of the cartridges you mention.

I use varying recipes of lino/lead......from 1 to 1 for rifle and magnum handgun down to 1 to 3 for lower pressure and velocity rounds like .38 special and .45 ACP.
