Does anyone if there's a way to find out who is claiming a dependent? 2 of my foster kids are being claimed by an unknown person. Can it be done by SSN?

The district director's office should be contacted, and the question made there. All IRS records are by SSN, and there is no doubt they can tell you something about what is happening. They will have to correct the matter. You cannot. ... felix

I would think that since you are being paid by the state to keep those children, that you wouldn't be allowed to claim them as dependents. But if you report that money as income and pay taxes on it, I can see a good argument for claiming them. Simple answer, the old gentleman who taught me how to do taxes always said," If you honestly THINK you have the right to claim it, go ahead and let the IRS tell you different IF they disagree".

Art- The tax lady says claim them, and in truth the compensation falls way short of what I'm putting out. But then we treat them like our own, not as a source of income. So we actually clothe them, feed them, etc. rather than spending it on beer, porn, etc. as the mutts do. That might explain some of it.

Regardless, someone is claiming them and they aren't entitled to claim them. Thats fraud in my book.

Claim them, let IRS sort it out. They will decide which claim is legitimate.

We're not claiming any of them, but I'm darn sure going to find out who is.
