So I became a member of the club a few weeks ago and shot my chrono. I shot it with a 22 getting things set up. Luckily I was smart enough to get one with a remote screen so that wasn't damaged in the hit. My chrono was still operational after the hit for about 9 or 10 shots and then started showing an error for every shot after that. I figured I'd have to send it in to get it fixed but I thought what the heck and took it apart.

Once I got it apart you can see the damage. I was surprised to find that it was relatively intact except for the new ventilation hole I placed in it.

I cleaned out all the fragments on the inside and patched up the hole with some high speed tape and put it back together. Took it out on the back patio to try it out and it works. Who says Friday the 13th is an unlucky day? :bigsmyl2:

It could have been a lot worse. Good job with the fix.

Must have been a piece of debris settling over the "eye" that started the errors. I'll bet it was giving errors for front sensor not reading. Looks like you got it going! If you have any other problems with it give them a call, they're great folks to deal with as far as service and repairs.

Looks like you hit it in the one place on the panel that would not kill it.

It was actually giving rear sensor errors. After I got it apart I'm betting that the bullet fragments were somehow shorting out the inner works causing the error. I suspected a cut wire to the rear sensor and that's why I took it apart in the first place to see if I could fix it.

I know, I couldn't have been luckier with my unlucky shot. :)

Doesn't get any better than that.

I was getting sporadic readings from the 22 when I was setting it up. Got in a hurry and tried to shoot closer to the sensors and got a little too close.

You were more lucky than me. I was chronographing a 44 Mag load, when I hit it

RCBS 44-250-K with a large meplat really leaves a large wound channel

Fortunately, Chrony sells replacements.

Aluminum tape is sooo much better than duct tape for something like that.

wow that was only due to small caliper anything bigger and it would have been gone

It’s pretty good that you’re able to repair it, especially with that heart shot. I barely winged the top of mine once, but enough debris shaved off to damage one photo eye and the wires that cross over the hinge. I bought a replacement from Chrony, just the box, not the whole kit.

I sure have shot a lot of those diffuser rods. I’ll bet I could never hit something that skinny if I was trying, but if knocked out five or six on accident.

I do have aluminum tape, but for a repair such as this it just doesn't feel right unless you use duct tape. :D

If you've fixed a bullet hole with duct tape........you might be a red neck! My apologies to all you Foxworthy haters I could not help myself it just seemed to fit.

I ruined a Chrono when gas check came off a boolit fired through my 03A3. It hit the display screen and ruined it.
