Have had a bucket of scrap for almost a year now. Mostly dug out of the traps at an indoor range with a few I've picked up at ranges added over the course of the year.

The melt would get this yellowish film on top. What caused that? Copper from the jackets getting into the mix?

Heat and a higher amount of pure lead. My range scrap is all commercial jacketed bullets and I end up with a rainbow of colors on top of my melt. My wheel weights stay a nice shiny silver.

if you had the heat up or it sat for an extended period of time.
and it was a solid gold color on the top, that was wrinkly lookin that was tin.
if it was swirled looking with other colors [like blue and purple],thats usually an indication of pure lead.
especially if the poured ingots have a bluish tint to them and go tud when dropped on the cement.
i'm gonna go with tin though.

It was wrinkly. I thought maybe tin. I didn't have the heat any higher than normal that I was aware of.

if it just sits in the cast iron pot for a few minutes it will form, no big deal, just flux it in and go.

I skim that off for range lead, just lightly across the top, fluxing helps, then pour to muffin trays
