a friend gave me some cast bullets a few years back. they are .312, 170gr, gas checked, 8 lube grooves with a dark yellow lube in them. i am not new to loading, but still trying to get a handle on sizing sizes for cast bullets. i thought they were for a 30-30, but 312 seems a little big, what caliber is a bullet that size intended to be used in?
i have 56 of them.

I size to .312 for my Win 94. Shoots great.

i use a nei copy of that at 313 in m 7.7 jap rifle.
many use the lyman version at 311 or thereabouts in 03's
i use it at 310 in my savage 340-30/30.
it could also be used in a 303,or a short throated 7.65 argie.

Yep, a type 99 Arisaka, Lee-Enfield or a hundred dollar special 91/30 Mosin will fire those. Before you know it, those 56 rounds will be all down range. The big question is to find out how they were made so you can "obtain" more.

Probably a Lovern style, and they will probably shoot thru any of the 30's. If you want them smaller, a lee sizer die will take them town to 310 or 311. If however they chamber at .312, try them, you might be supprised.
