On the LASC web page dealing with lead and lead alloys , I get a little confused about lead pipe composition. It would appear that it can either be "chemical lead" or "antimonial lead" what would the best way to tell? melt some down and check hardness , or by a weight to a known sample test ? could aprox age be an indicator as well ! I have a coulpe thousand lbs recovered from a major roadway overhaul in town but do not know what direction to go with is as far as creating a useable alloy mix , Mainly for Mag pistol and silywet guns. Thanks in advance .

If it were mine, I'd do both. Cast some boolits from it, do a hardness test, and do a comparison (weight and castability) to pure lead boolits cast in the same mould.

Seems like a hardness tester is the way to answer most aloy questions. I really need to break down and get one.
