Are there any Mensa members here? I would bet that there are...

You'll be surprised, if some of these guys will 'fess up. The club I belonged to in Californis had at least 5 Doctorates in it. Two were college professors. Ol Gringo holds several himself. For guys to get this interested in the nuts and bolts of reloading and casting bullets takes some brain cells to understand what you're doing, where you want to go, and how to get there. Not everyone, as you can tell by the questions, but a lot of them are pretty sharp guys.

Please guys don't anyone go back and look at my previous questions.

hah! I wouldn't join if I could. Think about defending yourself whenever somebody asked, "if you are so damn smart, why aren't you rich?"

Well, I have to ask. Is Mensa like the AAA or AARP or more like AA? Or is it a group like the Elks?

For the most part, it's a 'snob group'. You got to score 'genius' or better on the IQ test to get in. I am not a member.

Having known him for many years, I suspect the questions must not have been all that difficult. Nice guy, but not much savvy.

At one time I was an Exxon dealer, but luckily I have escaped. There was one occasional tire repair customer who was completely obnoxious, including bragging about his Mensa membership. One day he told a long, rambling story about having to put on his spare tire in Union Square in San Francisco, while I was repairing a tire for him. The point of his story was that a passing motorist yelled at him, "Do you always change tires in the middle of a busy street?" The Mensa man said that he used his favorite comeback, "No, I usually get an idiot like you to do it for me!" Rick, my employee, and I exchanged eye rolls, and went on with the tire repair. When the tire was back on the car and Mr. Mensa gone, I showed Rick that I had charged our usual tire repair price, plus enough for lunch for the two of us. Sometimes we idiots eat well.

I was reminded of the story where a doctor has to call a plumber. The plumber comes the middle of next week and charges the guy $125 for 15 minutes of work. The doc, a mensa man himself, figures that out at $500 an hour. So he rants for a while about how he's a doctor and all but he only gets $150 an hour. The plumbers says "yeah, that's all I made when I was a doctor".

That said. I would bet there are quite a few here who could make mensa, but are comfortable enough with who they are that they just do not care.

Past a certain point, smarts are abstract and have NOTHING to do with the real world. Allot of these Mensa people need others just to keep them going. Smarts and common sense have nothing to do with each other.

I had to take an IQ test once--not to worry it came out negative. I know one guy that will let you know within 5 minutes of meeting him he is mensa and what his IQ is. I worked with mentally retarded for a few years and most if not all,had more common sense than this guy. Somehow,he made it to Major in the Air Force, but got booted out with about 15 years. Had he been able to trade in a few of those genius IQ points for a small dab of common sense he would have made it to retirement.
