MiHec 3 cavity brass solid - 6.5mm Cruise Missle
This is a run of an earlier Lee GB. This will be a three cavity on two cavity blocks, GC solid brass mold that is suitable for the military 6.5mm rifles. This includes, but is not limited to the 6.5x55 Swede, 6.5mm M-S, 6.5mm Jap. It will cast at 0.268" or just slightly over. There is no discussion thread as this is a widely known boolit design that has not been replicated to the proper dimensions since the first GB ran by Oldfeller. This will will be cut to the ORIGINAL design dimensions.
We will need fifteen to commit to this. We will run this until we get the number we need or more since this should be quite popular. Price is $95 plus $15 shipping.
Please list your Forum name and your e-mail address in suitable form and the number of molds you want.

Thats what I thought too. For all the trouble everyones had with Lee's tolerences on this mold, I would have thought most of these guys would jump on one cut right............ but the price differential is a big factor too. Whats 0.002" or more oversize when you can buy four of them for the price of one cut right............

I'm a little surprised too. I have seen so many posts about the Oldfeller cruise missile, that I have wanted one for quite some time. In desperation I ordered 2 of the Lee molds from Mid South. I haven't used them yet and just received a 4 cavity from the GB with NOE. Also haven't had a chance to use it yet(just arrived this past weekend). With this one and the NOE mold, I should be able to find loads that will work in my Swedish Mauser.
If anyone is interested, I can part with one or both of the Lee molds. I'm not in a big hurry so I won't post in Swapping & Selling yet.

At this price (and at the original specs!!!)... I seriously DOUBT this will would be considered a 'DUD' - judging from 45 2.1 (and Oldfeller).
I am looking to reproduce STARMETAL's results (ie: HV) - otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
Still looking for more test results from those intrepid researchers who took up the gauntlet...
what happened?

I still miss his posts, just not the prickly part.

I would be interested also.
I doubt that I could ever match either Starmetal's results or those of those he crossed swords(Swedes) with. I'm not that much of an experimenter or that good a shot. I find it interesting to follow the lead of others and see if it works in my rifle.

Starmetal took two months of daily trials and on the phone help (and almost gave up) before he caught on to the buffer technique. Without learning it properly with lots of help your chances are low of finding it yourself. The results transfer over to all the medium burning smaller cartridges ( say 6mm to under 30 caliber) and its very well worth the time to learn..... but it ain't easy doing so. If you've read the milk jug thread, go back again and look at the last of the instructions. Nobody but Starmetal followed them all.

You will have far better luck doing that with the oversized Midsouth mould that drops around .2715" on the bands. Get one of these anyway though, because one day you'll probably get a 6.5mm military gun and you'll need it.

Nope... he doesn't........... just an oversize Lee from subsequent runs.
That doesn't even count as a Swedish Mauser mould. I have two other moulds, one has been modified to fit the military Swedes and shoots very well at lower speeds, probably will do even better if I learn how to load it properly. It doesn't have the correct lube grooves for the Swede rifling though like the Cruise Missile does, and the narrow drive bands aren't well suited for high velocity. The other one is for paper-patching. If I can scrape together the money for this in time I'll be in.

This mold is meant to be sized between 0.2675" and 0.268". It is for the military 6.5mm cartridges, of which it has been treid thoroughly in the 6.5 Swede, 6.5 MS, 6.5 Jap and for fit in the 6.5 Carcano. I really have no idea what it does in a commercial 6.5 cartridge.

In the various 94, 96 and 38 models i've tried, this boolit (from the original single cavity Oldfeller GB) seats with the boolit base at the base of the neck. There is a big difference between out of spec molds and a correctly cut one.

That looks like the trick, except that starting @ 243 seems a bit much.
Still a good idea?

Lee will/used to do custom sizes for about $25. Contact them.
from the Lee site
Custom Work Suspended
Due to unprecedented order volume, we are suspending all custom work until we are able to meet the required volume of our standard products. At present, it appears to be spring of 2013.

Contact member buckshot. He made me a custom Lee type die, can make dies for Lyman/RCBS as well. Took about 2 weeks to get the die as I recall.

. If you've read the milk jug thread, go back again and look at the last of the instructions. Nobody but Starmetal followed them all.
Wow, that was cruel!!
A 28 page thread that is mostly about bad feelings, and a 1/2 page of directions.
Looks like something good to learn though.

A few folks made the thread nasty............. Since I'm the one who wrote the directions I can say that and how they were not followed thru. The whole direction business was aimed at teaching a new loading technique for a medium size bottleneck case. Quite a few people tried it their way....... It only works one way in a narrow range. They never got past the upper half of the instructions. One fellow wrote a synopsis of what he did to prove it wrong........ he even stated how he did the buffer........ the directions clearly stated that his method would absolutely NOT work. Now you tell me I'm cruel..... little wonder after what happened................

Now you tell me I'm cruel....
If there was any room in your PM inbox you would have gotten an immediate apology. Tape on the web of an undersized case is a trick I needed, so the reading was good for me.

All other Mihec group buys I've been in on (4 so far) have closed when the materials go to the machine.
I've not been asked for payment on any of these buys until the mould was ready to ship, then I got an email asking for a PayPal payment... Followed by receiving the mould 1 to 2 weeks later.
Hopefully this buy will be the same, I've been quite happy with the way it's gone in the past.
The picture of the broken cherry posted a while back probably has something to do with any delays here? Getting the chips out of that skinny deep hole without bogging down seemed to be a challenge.

In most group buys I've bought into, the wait time was usually something like 9 months from the 'sign me up' to having the mold in hand; good things come to those who wait, but I haven't even seen a production schedule yet. Any word from Mihec?

The picture Mihec posted of the broken 2nd. cherry on page 5 kind of suggests that production started- And then stopped!
I've got the dies, some brass and still need the H&I die, checks and THE RIFLE. I keep looking at M-96's but haven't bought one yet. Mihec isn't slowing me down by not finishing the moulds. Yet.

No molds yet apapro - Last we heard was difficulties with broken cherries. I don't think a single mold has been completed as of yet, so the wait continues...

This mould is designed for the fast twist and "generous" throat of the Swedish military Mausers. It may be too fat in the nose to chamber in your rifle's throat without seating excessively deep, or too long for the twist rate of your rifle to stabilize...
What's your twist rate? Swedes are about 1:7.8". Do you know your throat dimensions?

Kinda thought it may be on the heavy side....I believe I put a 1-10 twist on it. Thanks for the response.

Actually, it has fit all of the military 6.5mm cartridges we've tried it in: 6.5 Swede, 6.5 M-S, 6.5 Jap, 6.5 Carcano (haven't got to try the 6.5 Dutch yet)..... in their original form and guise. It shot very well in all of them.

I don't believe Lee makes a sizer this size so it would have to be special order from them.

Question on length: don't have a sizer yet, likely Lyman or RCBS, Is length a possible problem?
This mold is meant for the military Swedish Mausers. It is cut to fit their throats as well as the various other military 6.5mm calibers. It is cut to the original spec's, which means you don't really have to size (unlike the Midsouth runs cut by Lee which are generally oversize in band and nose diameters). I cast them and water drop them, then wait until they are hard. After they are hard I run them in a 0.268" H&I die (made by Buckshot on this forum) seating the gas check and lubing the boolit. No problems with bending that way in the Lyman or RCBS lubrisizers.
