Hello the camp! Need refreshing/reinforcement for what I thimk I know about reloading for autoloaders. Conventional wisdom was that SLR and cast lead boolits don't mix. Is that the case with FAL? If so, does moly coating mitigate cast bullet use? I already throw .308s for my Krag w/ gas check; this would be an add-on. thxnregards mm

Go read Bruce B's sticky on cast in the M1A in cb loads/military rifles sub forum. I'm having good results with NOE 311299 and H335 in my SQUAD SCOUT M1A, lubed with 45/45/10 plus some carnuba red from WHITE LABEL LUBES.

What's going on in "sorry vista" and "fort hoochy-coochy?" I spent five months there in 1968 before my "senior trip to southeast asia."

+1 on reading Bruce's "sticky", excellent info there. Loading for the m1A also is very applicable for the FAL. I've shot quite a few cast bullets through several FALs in years past. 311299 or 314299 loaded over 4895 with a dacron filler and keeping the velocity under 1950 fps will give the best accuracy results. The gas system should be close down for reliable functioning around 1800 - 1900 fps.

Sizing at .311, using GCs and a standard quality lube such as 2500+ or Javelina will work fine. Cast of WWs + 2% tin, Lyman's #2 or similar alloy and aircooled will be fine also. No real need to "mitigate" anything as "SLR and cast lead boolits don't mix" is false. Cast bullets will shoot just fine in the FAL/SLR. If they don't then the fault lies with the caster/loader/shooter and that's where any "mitigation" would be required.

mine worked fine with 28-30 of 4895 and a 165-180g bullet sized .309.I ran into problems with the gas plug getting all leaded up and hard to remove.I just made sure i took it off every 100-200 rounds or so so it didn't get about soldered in place. The FAL i used was an STG58 parts kit and Imbel receiver. You should get 1.75-2.5 MOA easily.Mine would occasionally shoot near 1" but not enough to call it an MOA gun.I shot it in a cast bullet military mach last year and won the 5 shot group aggregate(4 five shot groups) at 200 yards with a 3.56" average.

Talk about bread on the water!!! Much obliged to all. Bruce, if you're ever in Sierra Vista, bring a sack of goobers--I'll supply the beer. Well, goes for the rest of y'all, I suppose.
Sorry, EDK, nearly forgot--SV is ginger-peachy. Getting to the golden time of low-80 days and mid40 nights. Moved here from the valley [Phx area] cuz I said if I ever see another 100deg midnight on my patio, it'd be too &%^@&*@ soon. So far so good. Joined the gun club last week; now set to famfire a winter's worth of black rifles. Film at 11aught2.
