I suppose this has been asked several times but not to be found by me.
Probably over looked....Having shot black powder for the last few years
I am think of trying some of the smokeless powder...I figure what the heck.

So would my SPG lube be ok for the white powder loads?

And if I try this should a harder bullet be used instead of the 1 in 20
or maybe 1 in 30...I appreciate your replies...I am going to try competeing
against the high power guys at 250 yards, just for the fun of it..

Can't see the bull, but I think if I just aim for the center of the paper I will
do ok...Thanks...

I use LLA if SPG doesn't seem suited to the task @ hand. Didn't say what boolit, velocity or rifle you had in mind. That would be helpful for getting better replies.

Here's a smokeless thread. Maybe what you seek is in there.

Hello, catkiller..for smokeless in my .40-70's..either the 2 1/2" straight or the 2 1/4" B.N., I simply use a slightly harder version of my basic beeswax, Anhyd. lanolin, castor oil mix. Some of my most accurate smokeless loads are using 20-1 lead-tin alloy.

Bee's wax 50%, lard 40%, bottle of STP.

All I use in my 45/70s with modern powder. Gottem up to 2000fps so far.
Backed them back down to 1750.

For holy black, I leave out the STP, and use cornola oil instead

As my smokeless loads approximate BP velocities, I use Emmert's Lube in both the .45-70 and .38-55, regardless, of alloy. No fouling or leading issues.

White Label Lube has several lubes that work great with smokeless and are much more inexpensive than SPG. It's not worth my time to mix up a smokeless lube. At low velocities I have used Emmert's Lube, which is what I use for BP loads.
