It isn't linotype. It might be mono or foundry type, but it's hard to tell... maybe if you took a picture from farther away? :kidding:

Appears to be monotype. If it is cheap buy ALL 300 pounds! GOOD STUFF ! :)

Almost 10% tin & 20% Antimony !!!!

That is a hell of a price for monotype. It should have 9% tin, 19% antimony, 72% lead. Buy it all and figure out what to do with it later.

1 lb of monotype + 10 lbs of pure lead = alloy with 0.8% tin, 1.7% antimony
That will work well for something like 45acp.

That monotype is going to last a while.

Being that I am only 28yrs old and only discovered my love for casting 2yrs ago I am stockpiling. I even built a shed with a special area for my lead ingots. At this time I am trying not to buy any lead but for mono or lino I can shell out a few bucks... Right now I have about 800# of soft lead 5-6 bhn but not pure and about 600# of ww all ingots. I have 15# of lino and now over 300# of mono. This is still a work in progress since lead is getting harder and harder to find so I figure atleast 1 ton of soft and 1 ton ww before I am satisfyed. All the alloys as much as I can find at great deals. I cast for 8mm, 30, 357, 45, 44, muzzleloaders, 45-70, 450 marlin about every lever or pistol I have. I have not ventured into casting for my rifles except the 8mm because I am in the process of making everyone I own a sub half MOA rifle on a sporter platform I only have 7 rifles to go 9 already are!!! Maybe when I get them all there Ill try casting and doing the same with the cast bullets......

Get that stuff. I am currently using 2 pounds monotype with 18 pounds of lead pipe for much of my shooting. Seems to be working quite well so far.

I would buy all that stuff for tha price. Use it sparingly. Use it wisely.

Yup. That`s monotype letters. Has anybody told you about the grey foam that happens on the pot when you melt mono? Sounds like you`re getting a nice stockpile of the different leads. Robert

I agree, Monotype! Worth at least $1.50 per lb. to me, so I'd buy it all.

If you melt it down, flux with a good pine or hardwood sawdust! Or just add to you mix as is and flux.

No, it is not.

This is a linotype:
Line O Type.

Hey, you asked for it. :bigsmyl2:

One more thing - I wouldn't melt it down into ingots.
Just use it in it's original form. That way if you trade it or sell it later people will see what they're getting.

It is foundry type. Lino is in lines that's why it is called lino and monotype was used for complex matter in small sizes. If it's individual letters the should be a makers logo or name moulded into each piece somewhere in the lightening slots.

That crate full of linotype I got part of yesterday had some pieces in it with the same cross section, but about 5 inches long.
I figured it was some other piece used in the linotype machine.

All that stuff I got was softer than I expected. I can mark it with a thumbnail on an edge without too much effort.

My Lee hardness tester is showing a hardness of around 12, so I don't quite know what the deal is.

I figure $.66 a pound for mono and .11 for the wheel weights.... Have not checked it with the cabin tree yet but it is all big letters I figure its Mono but I will check it soon and report back.
