New Mould in the House

An old shooting acquaintence pulled up in the driveway Monday and says here's some bullet casting stuff I'm not using.

Among all of the stuff was about 5K of mixed .30 and .32 GCs. What fun that was to sort.

Then, there's a 762mm-130-SPL RCBS mould w/handles in the mess. I cleaned that up right off and ran about 50. Casts at .312" and weighs 139.3 grains ready to launch. Now, I know this bullet was designed for the SKS but it looked so good that I had to load a box for the .30/06.

Looks like a pretty good bearing surface on it and a #413 TP works well with it.

Sunday at the range will tell.

I used this mould RCBS 7.62/130 to cast some boolits for my K31 out of linotype lubed with 50/50 Beeswax-Alox and 13 grains of Red Dot, using 282 Win Brass and CCI 250 primers, OAL 2.725. Five Shots @ 50 Yards with an Average speed of 1842fps, E.S 18.09, S.D 6.61 and a group of 2"

I have a Ly. #311410 130grn pb mold that I bought to load a few for a friends SKS and size down for my 30's. The few that I've tried so far have been all over the place so I decided maybe I shouldn't have sized them down or I was pushing them too fast.

Was wondering if that's about the same mold as the RCBS and if anyone has had any accuracy with that bullet out of a 30/30 or 06? Or it may be just a bad bullet to shoot in my regular 30's.

I tried the 311410 in my '06 with 12.5 grains Red Dot. No luck, about 81/2" x 11" @ 50 yards. Gonna try it in my 32-20 next, a little slower.

.............I've shot the Ly311410 in an Argentine Engineer's carbine with IIRC like 8.0grs Red Dot and a M93 Marlin 30-30. Both did well with it. I htink the 30-30 was doing like 1250 fps?

Thanks for the tips. I looked through my records and looked like I loaded a few for my 30/30 with enough RL-7 and H4198 to shoot the 130's at a hair over 2000fps and wild accuracy.

Looks like I've got a handfull loaded with 9.0grns Unique but haven't tried. I don't have any Red Dot, just the Green and Blue.

edit: Seems I remember other posts on another forum a couple of years ago where someone told me he never could get that bullet to shoot straight but that was before I ever got this mold so I'm not sure.

Well, gave them a try in the 06 on Sunday.

762mm-130-SPL sized .310 over 14.0 grains of Unique. Velocity average was 1774 FPS and groups were just a little over an inch.

Pretty good lightweight plinker bullet. Mine weighs 139.3 grains ready to load. If you luck up on one like I did, it may be worth acquiring for teh .30s. Mine drops bullets at .312"./beagle

Rick...Got to look at the .30 Carbine application and see how long it is. Didn't even think about that.

If I can launch a 311440 or a 30-150-CM out of the Ruger, I should be able to shoot these in the handgun.

Now, the M1 Carbine might be a bit different. It has a pretty long body and I'll have to see how much the throat of mine will take. Here we get into the OAL acceptable to the magazine versus decreased powder space in the case which makes the pressures jump. Have to think about that a bit./beagle
