I just cast some boolits with the Lyman 452490 mold…

I purchased this critter for my Blackhawk 45 Colt…

Now, I get looking for data and Lyman doesn’t even show data for it with the 45 Colt…

They do with the 454…

Is the 452490 not meant for the 45 Colt?...

It weighs in at around 265 grains when checked and lubed…

I wonder if I could start by using the data for the 45-270-SAA that weighs in at around 280 grains…

Or possible use the data for the 452424 boolit?...

Guess I should have looked at the Lyman data before I made the order…

I have noticed that there are no “heavy” loads for the 452424 boolit listed in the Lyman manuals…

I am using charges of H-110, Lil’Gun, and 4227 with the 45-270-SAA and this data came from various articles in Handloader Magazine…

Any thoughts on the slow burners used with the 452490?...

Dang…

It probably means that neither of those powders are good choices for the .45 colt with that light weight of a bullet. You will find some H110/296 & Lil'Gun loads for Ruger revolvers & TC with 300 g jacketed and cast bullets. 45 Colt level psi's, even for a Ruger, probably will not get up high enough for either powder to burn efficiently with lessor weight bullets. I would suggest 2400, H4227 or A #9 for top end loads for Ruger large frame BH revolvers.

You might look at Hodgdon data for the Nosler 260 gr Partition bullet.

With H110 you can use 296 load data from Hodgdon books. The loads shown on their site are for Colts, etc.
Lyman info is the same, old guns.
With that boolit 24 to 26 gr of either powder is safe in a Ruger. But check for yourself first.

I have the same mold, albeit mine is an old one. They were designed for the 45 colt. I haven't done a lot of "testing" with this bullet but I can tell you it is very accurate in my Rugers over 9gr. Unique..

BCB,
Hodgdon data for a 250 gr jacketed bullet in Ruger Blackhawks shows 26.5/H110/1465/29,800 and 25.5/Lil' Gun/1,410/29,800.

Personally I have used 26/H110 or 296 under a 265 gr Keith (454424) bullet with good success in my 45 Colt Ruger so I think that loading would be plenty safe with your 452490 bullet.
