Anyone ever do anything like this?

180gr bullet in 9mm sounds neat but any ideas on how well it would work?

i shot some 158's and that was blind load development, they shot pretty darn good though.
i don't know about going to 180.

Lyman Reloading Handbook - 44th Edition- 1967 Has Data for a 158gr Cast boolit #358311 (# 2 alloy)
One of them is Unique 3.5 @ 883fps------4.5 @ 1010fps. Data is there for Bullseye, Red Dot and Herco.

i found the info in Lyman #45, as well. I tried inserting a 158 SWC in a 9mm case, and it fit, but it wouldn't chamber. What is the diameter of your bullet?

Lyman Reloading Handbook - 44th Edition- 1967Have it. The only data on that forum for the 180grs is "2.1ish grains of 310"

Since the 9mm case is tapered seating a bullet that deep is probably going to give some bulge but could you fix that with the Lee factory crimp die to bring the case back into spec?

I never did shoot bullets in that weight. I would think that the overall length would be very important. Bullets that are touching the rifling would keep the slide from closing 100%.

i used the 358477 swc.
different 9mm brass brands have different tapers to them.
i could use .358 with no issues i only fired a limited number of them as i realized i had a 125 gr rnfp mold that weighed 130 grs. from my alloy, and that's what i use now.

the 358156 sized .357 without GC worded in my Marlin Camp 9.When i used a GC it bulged enough at the GC area not to chamber. That was 20 years ago so i don't have specifics but the load shot very well.About 1.5" at 50 f i remember correctly.

For my supressed sub-gun, I used a rn 357 diamater 200 grain mold and made some long nosed round nose boolits from dead soft lead. Then using a drill bit, I reamed out about 50 cases to have a "shoulder" inside the case for the boolit to sit on. They shot well. I never killed anything with em, but they did their job. Problem was...... those cases would usually split where the shoulder was reamed to and it was just too much of a pain to do any more. I had to give it up for Lent.

I have about 500 .357" 158 grain Truncated Cone plated bullets I have been thinking about trying in my SW 6906. Anyone tried anything like that?

I tried some 190grs once using Bullseye… I posted here about it; let me go see if I can find the link.

147 gn cast boolit has a nice push feel to it. That's the heaviest i've gone in 9mm not sure how a 180 gn would work but go for it if you're feeling spunky

Here is my thread from a while back.

2ndAmendmentnut you have the specs on the bullet you were using?like bullet length and the depth you seated the bullet? How many grains of bulleye did you use? I'd like to through it in quickload and see what pressure levels you were running.

2gr of Bullseye is what I think my post said, with a COL of 1.160. They shot alright but not enough power to work the action.

See post #6 of the thread I have linked.

Thanks the only other thing I would need to run it through quickload is the length of the bullet itself and which XD you were using or at least the barrel length.

I seated the Lar's 358-180-WFNGC in a 9mm case but that's as far as it went. 1.0595" OAL is what I got. Checked and lubed runs 193.1gr on the scale using WW alloy.

I think Lee's 158gr RNFP for the .38/.357 would be better. Similar profile and less weight. Would make a great small game plinker load with Trail Boss, I think.

well still need the length of the bullet itself not the cartridge but the lead bullet for an accurate guess but I put in your bullet being .75(3/4in) long under 2grs of bulleye and a COL of 1.160. and this is what the program put out.

PSI: 17299
FPS:585
FT-LBS:144.

But a longer bullet can really change the pressure levels fast.

.745" is the length of my bullet. Just under 3/4 inch. Problem is my OAL is 1.06 to crimp groove.

Fastest powder I have in stock is WSF.

Anyone have a 9mm Luger throat reamer I can borrow?
