I recently bought some mixed once fired brass mixed head stamps they did not need trimming. Twice I have had the Hornady brass keep the action on my Rio Grande from closing. Is there anything odd about Hornady brass. This is my first exposure to them.

Since there are not too many of them I think I should pick them out and forget them. The Winchester, RP, and Federal all work fine.

Are you full length resizing them prior to use?

My first thought is that they were fired in a gun with a longer chamber than yours and your sizing die is not pushing the shoulder back far enough. Just guessing.

Hornady brass is usually short because of the leverloution bullets being longer than standard bullets. Measure the neck dia of loaded rounds and compare to same boolit loaded in other makes of brass.

I got given a couple of hornady fired 30-30 cases as well.
Fed and RP cases.
All shot out of the same gun.

The leverlution showed higher pressures.and some base/lug marks.
Don't know what they were shot from though.

After full length sizing they still wouldn't fit in by guns chamber without any thing else done to them.

Everything other brands Iv'e tried just falls in unless they have bent rims or such.
The base could be a bit thicker or around the web.

Just a pain to work with.

I dunno but I only had 2 so I tossed then in the ********* tin to maybe sort out one day.

Maybe they needed full length sizing two or three times to get the spring back out of them

Hope it helps

Well, this all gives me things to ponder. I plan on sorting them out, there should not be too many.

Don't know about their 30-30 brass; but, their 308 match brass is worth killing for.

Never had a problem but I full length size, anneal the neck area and fire form them for my .30-30 improved.

+1 Same for the .30-'06 I bought a while back. It's been years since I've loaded any 30-30 but records show I had headspace issues with once-fired in a few instances. No notations on the new cases.
